If I was a marine or a soldier? its up to you guys which branch I join. Whichever will get me more respect. So tell me, which will you be proud of me in? and which will my family and myself be proud of in? Marine or Army?

God, that's a pathetic question. It's tough to respect someone who is so hard up for respect that he'll base a life-altering decision on the opinion of a bunch of strangers. You need to work on your self-respect, seriously. Don't worry about what others think.

Outside of that, I wish you luck in whatever you choose. Joining the military is definitely a noble endeavor.
The marine corp is the tip of the spear the first one in and the last one out if you go anywhere with marine equipment on then you will be majorly respected. If you join either branch just walking down the st. everyone will respect you. I will have to say that the marine corp will make you look more like a bad *** because they are THE FEW THE PROUD THE MARINES WHOOO RAAAH but you have to realize that the marines are not for everybody it is the hardest boot camp and my recruiter told me that it is hell for 3 months so you have to take that in mind when you sign up the marines are the few that can go threw that.
You will be respected regardless of your branch of service, but the amount of respect you earn will be based more on your character and contributions and not the uniform itself.

Well, first off i hate the Army..and love the Marines!! I would respect you more if you were a Marine and i am positive that everyone else will too...trust me...Marines are better disciplined and deserve to be respected...unless you want to be a scumbag like the guys in the army...your choice!!! Marines are badass too!!!
Okay, if your going in just to look "badass" just stop now, also if your depending on strangers to choose your future path.
because that isn't what soldiers are thinking when they fight for you just so you can sit at your computer typing your question.
No matter what branch you go in, they all have their qualities, and they all fight for the same reason at the end of the day.
but Marines slogan is "the few, the proud the Marines" because they are the smallest branch and their training is the hardest and longest, except the NAVY SEALS.
if your looking for a challenge, i would choose the Marines, or NAVY SEALS who are ridiculous with the training they go through.
so if you want to look "badass" go to the NAVY SEALS,
i'm sure that mentality of yours wont be the same after your basic training, you'll have respect and be disciplined, you wont be worrying about if you look cool or not, you do it for one purpose & for one purpose only.
to protect your country, and the man/woman standing beside you.

I don't know how old you are but if you just want to brag, nothing will bring you respect. We are proud of our family members and friends serving in any military branch. Everything has drawbacks and benefits so we know it is hard to be in the Army and the Marines also have their own hardships to cope with. You can bring yourself success and respect if you serve honorably, your branch has nothing to do with that. Why would anyone look down on a person who belongs to another branch? Everybody probably has many difficulties and they fight for the same reason no matter whether they are Marines or Soldiers. Your family should be proud of you no matter what you choose.
The Yahoo Answers community does not need to make your decision about going into the United States military. This is a huge personal decision. Do not do it to look good to other people. Do it for yourself and your own personal reasons. If the only reason you're joining is to look better to other people, you are in for a rude awakening. You can be respected as a civilian, and will also be greatly respected as a Marine or a soldier, and you need to weigh the decision very heavily and not choose the "cooler" branch so you can look like a bad***

BUT it depends on how you act..if you are a complete jackass in a Marine uniform compared to a Respectful person in a Marine uniform..who is going to get the most respect? the jackass in the marine or the respectful man in the marine uniform??? more than likely people will think the jackass doesnt deserve to wear that uniform. It depends on how YOU act in uniform
