''IF POETRYCOMES not as naturally as leaves to a tree,it had better not come at all''
VISION always says poets are born not made
i can agree...poets who's poetry flows free is usually better than the poet who has to think about their words.
I might disagree and for a few logical reasons.
One; the birth of a poet, writer of drama, singer of songs, painter of portraits, inventor of the wheel, "might" have those qualities inborn in the sense that eventually the right brain will be dominant, but we can't know that until we explore those aspects of us that suggest, or rather insist some creative part of us, even if latent.
Beyond that; creativity, in any genre is a process, and unlike getting a burger at a drive up window, just to fill a growling stomach, might never fulfill us satisfactorily no matter how prolific or substantial we are in any manner of expressing.
With no offense to any assumed "Poets" here, I suspect many want not much more than to express feelings, and that is as it should be. Will they ever produce a classic piece? I can't know, but I suspect no one should "create" for anyone but themselves anyway in some form of self satisfaction. Anything above that might be like icing on an already delicious cake.

Ah, my friend Vision. I tend to agree most are born with the skill. However, that diminishes the ability of some to learn. To say anyone can learn to write a poem is like saying anyone can be a brain surgeon. Clearly, this is not so. Can a brain surgeon learn to write a poem?
I'm kidding of course but I think there are a limited number of people who, given proper instruction, can learn to write a poem or two. Poets write for a lifetime.
