I guess it depends on what you mean by a "powerful" impression.

I always think that the best type of communication is face to face. That way there is less scope for misinterpretation, and is the best way of making sure that someone has understood what you're trying to communicate.

But written letters can be "powerful". Things like companies chasing you for money use letters, because these can be quite intimidating and can scare people into action. I think this communication can be thought of as powerful. It's commanding something, and it's not really trying to open up debate or discussion!

I still think that if you need to communicate something important to someone, the best way is always face to face. That way, you can clarify what you mean, and also find out the other person's point of view straight away, so it's easier to sort things out.

It all depends on what the message is that you're trying to get across!

  • depends. face-to-face is best because a letter can just show words but face to face conveys facial emotions and tone of voice. but it all depends on what youre going to do -- write a donation letter for a non-profit, or campaign for politics, or write a love-letter to the person you love.

  • Face to face. A letter to me is a way of telling someone something and not having to be around for the reaction. Definitely face to face.

  • It all depends what the underlying message is. I personally prefer to be told things face to face. I like to see a person's body language and facial expressions to determine the validity of what is being said. Anyone can write a letter and lie for that matter. How do I know that your feelings are genuine if I don't see your face. At least face to face I can see truth in your eyes, actions, and body movement.

  • Both in a way. I would say it's better to say something face to face because then you know the person's tone of voice and it's more personal. However, a letter can be just as powerful because the words that are written down will never go away.
