Well, I'm 17 and im getting my first tattoo at the end of the month. its a family oriented tatto of two love birds acting as my parents, music notes for my brother whoes majoring in music, and my sign and my other brothers sign, i have it all drawn out. I know not to drink before the tattoo or take aspring. im not scared of the pain, im very good with piercings. but im just wondering what to compair the feeling with. and maybe some stuff to bring that would make me not feel so nurvous. I feel nurvous with every piercing i get and it pumps me up quite a bit. but i just want to know what some of you guys do when you get tattoos to keep you busy. i know the deep breathing. talking. does it hurt to get the shoulder blade done the most? or is it one of the least painful....
on top of that im told girls can handle pain better is that ture? and...
people who eat sour things take pain better? is that true also?

hey i just got a tat on my right shoulder and i was terrified of the pain! i dont take pain well at all! but just go in and take a friend or boyfriend, someone you can talk to a while and maybe like your music... i took music in and it worked. It didn't hurt that much at all! the only part that was a little painful was when it was more on the blade but the artist said thats just because i had broken that bone before.
Breathe deep and the artist will most likely do a blood line first (go over where the tattoo will be simply with the needle) so if there are any spots that are more painful than others or if you cant stand the pain then you'll know what to expect without getting inked.

I have a full back piece, and the pain of the electric is like a hot, stinging/cutting sensation. It is a bit more painful on the back because of nerve endings and proximity to bone, but it isn't intolerable and you'll get through it with flying colors.
Being nervous is natural, but the best thing you can do is eat a good meal beforehand, and bring a bottle of water or juice and a granola bar just to keep you hydrated and your blood sugar levels good. You can also always bring a friend with you for moral support, though I find most often i like to be there by myself so i can relax into it a bit.
Deep breathing is good, and if you feel the need to tense the area being tattooed, tense your hands or feet instead. That'll give you an outlet without affecting the area being tattooed. Believe me, it totally works.
You'll do great. I've sat for more than 50 hours worth of tattoos, so I know you'll get through fine and feel like such a bad-*** when you're done.
