I'm 16. Well i emigrated from the UK to the middle east about a month ago... huge culture shock. And school is different too. I'm so used to being in an all girls comprehensive school, kicking back and laughing at all sorts of obscenities. I was the intellegent one too. Now, everyone is smart, i'm the one lagging in lessons and can't learn anymore. And the boys are so distracting, i find myself thinking about crushes rather than homework. I'm predicted good grades at A-level (USA 16+ exams), but with this current attitude i doubt i'll even pass. (By the way the predictions are based on my old school's agenda for me) Can anyone please help. It winds me up so much that i'm just thinking about such stupid teenage bull***t like some retard. Its not like i'm thinking deeply about social or cultural aspects. Just about looking good. day dreaming. It's not like i even want a boyfriend (never even had one ownig to the all girls school) . I have important exams. You're getting lots of attention and it is hard to focus on whats important, which is school. But if you're becoming too obsessed with guys two things are going to happen,
1. you're going to miss out on this great opportunity in front of you which is to go to what sounds like a very good school and come out of it with the grades to get you into a good college. I know it sounds very parenty but not matter what is going on in life, you have to worry about yourself and your future first. Because a girl who has her **** straight and guys can tell is determined and going places is even hotter. remember, never want to be the girl who has a guy who can get her everything, be the girl who gets it for herself I Think There's Something Wrong With Me!!?:: unless u think theres something wrong w/ me ; ]. 2. If you are in a school where school matters to most people and you are more concerned with flirting and dating, then you are only going to date guys who are the same way, and in the long run none of those relationships are going to last.
I say focus on school, its okay to have crushes on guys but don't let them take over. Become friends with everyone first, for at least 6 months to a year until you really get to know a good group of people at this new school, remember you don't really know any of these people yet, and that way you also won't end up with a reputation that you cant get rid of either.
The only reason for this is that there are boys around. And 16 isnt the right age to suddenly have sex obsessed guys around you when you have no clue abt how to handle them.
Dealing with boys is your main priority now. It usually comes with practise so i cant tell you exactly how to do it. Just sit alone for sometime and annalyse your behavior and theirs too. Also your reactions to what they say. Then you need to fix boundaries that u shouldnt let them cross.
for example, if you need to pass on something to a guy, and he takes it from your hand with a lot of skin to skin contact, you gotta snatch your hand away. If they comment something about your body/dress or anything that you think is remotely sexual, walk away from there. Don't argue or snap, just coolly walk away.
I know that you must be enjoying all the attension. Its perfectly normal and you're not acting like a retard. But if you dont want to become one, you gotta sacrifice the attention. Mainly because it is not genuine. Once you mingle around with boys that respect you, you can spot the genuine ones - that takes time - maybe 2/3 years. You're just 16 so spend these years of highschool worrying abt grades.
and the most important advice - try and hang with the girls there. pick your friends - the studious ones that are'nt very popular.
You might get a lower score this year because of all this and the new syllabus. But being with simple friends (not much into fashion/ boys/ makeup) who study well will develop healthy competition and by 2nd term you should be doing good.
does this help?
Am I falling for my best friend?
Is it normal for a nearly 14 year old girl to be looking at porn? i havnt even had my period yet!?
