What is the big thing with tattoos?

  • I am just wondering what the big deal is about tattoos. I have been raised in which tattoos are bad, and I have a girlfriend who really wants one. I care for her a lot and I am trying to be open to it but its really hard for me. And I am trying to better understand it. I remember when I was a kid no body ever had tattoos. And now everywhere I go i at least see one a day. And in the same locations on women. I just wanna know what the big thing is. I know its art I like some of the designs but I dont understand how someone would make it permanent. I dont know I am just trying understand it and its really hard for me.

  • Hello:)..When i read this letter it really got me, I never had a tattoo and I'm never getting one in my life.Mabye you should talk to your girlfriend about how you feel about this situation..mabye she'll take it into consideration!

  • You sound pretty small minded. I don't get what there is not to get. Tattoos are beautiful individual expressions for the person that bears them. All of my tattoos are beautiful and are like bookmarks of my life. I remember when and where I got every tattoo and who I was with, etc. It's wonderful! To me it looks weird to see people without tattoos, unless they are old. I would never date a guy without tattoos because to me it shows that the person is not creative and that they are conservative, and uptight, all things I hate. I hope she gets the tattoo, just pick a good artist. You could always move to the Bible belt if you really think it's that big of an issue. I would suggest you work on being more open minded. Some people might think you look weird, and disagree with the decisions that you make in life too, you never know....

  • tattoos for some people that have them are a way to remember certain times, or special people in their lives. For most people that get tattooed, there is significance behind them, a memory or milestone attatched to the tattoo. It is a form of expression, just as your clothes you wear are your form of expression, or an artists masterpieces. For us who have tattoos, it is a way to show who we are. The reason you are seeing more tattooed people is that society is slowly becoming more accepting of tattooed people, of course not completely, becuase you are still limited professionally, but socially it is not as taboo.
Thought help: im thinking of getting a tattoo. - Help.com::
A tattoo is a big deal. Kids get them every day and a few years down the road, they hate it. My opinion, get things that mean something to you.

I have two tattoos so far, more to come soon (breastfeeding and pregnancy have prevented many lol) One is a small polynesian style sun on my ankle, I got it at a rough spot in my life- relationship possibly ending, and it was a way for me to remember to be strong and that there will be happiness ahead. My other is a celtic shamrock design on my upper back, which my husband has a similar design on his inner bicep. We got it together, shortly after we were married. His has initials and dates of our wedding, and our son's birthdate, mine is simpler.

Your girlfriend should be free to determine what she wishes to do with her body. I hope that if she decides to get one that you don't use that against her. She may not have been brought up the way you were, which is not a problem, but you should be able to understand her views and let her have her free will. She is your girlfriend, and you are not married or promised to each other, so it really is 100% her decision. Good luck, hopefully you two can come to an understanding!

  • My husband is the same way: it was how he was raised. I think the biggest deal about tattoos is that they're still taboo. Some people like the pain of it. Others like the fact that they're getting something permanent on them that represents something that they feel deep about. And, then, again, a lot of people get them to try to "fit in". Yeah, they're still taboo but then again, they're so common, now, I only know a handful of people that don't have a tattoo! It's all a matter of opinion and beliefs. The reason why I like tattoos is because I feel that it's an unique way of expressing yourself.

  • Everyone gets tattoos for their own reasons. Sentimental, style, their kids, their spouses, lovers, what they like. I have a scorpion on my arm and it represents my Zodiac Sign Scorpio. I got something i knew would never change. I am going to be getting a cross on my other arm for the memory of my dad and i havent decided what to get for the memory of my grandma. People in todays society specially most of those I've met in church, have looked at me like i'm a bad person because i have one tattoo. I've never spent a day in jail, hopefully i never will. I dont own a motorcycle. I've been asked time and time again about why i got it. my tat will never change. the reasoning behind it will never change. The pastor who married my husband and I has tattoos. He's a sinner and he'd tell you exactly that. He's an ordained minister but he's not perfect. No one is. For me its a sentimental thing. I am into my zodiac sign and i read my horoscope daily. Some might call it stupid. Everyone has their own reasons for getting inked. To each their own. I have never looked down on anyone who has a tattoo even before I got mine. But i was raised to think they were bad. Now I know different. Like i said everyone has their own reasoning behind it. If your gf wants to get a tattoo ask her to think about it first. Ask her to make sure what she wants is going to be what she's gonna want for the rest of her life because thats how long its gonna be there. Ink doesnt make the person.

  • People do it because they like it. That's it.

  • I don't think just 1-3 is to bad. However, I wouldn't get over that much. I wouldn't get a vulgar tattoo either. I don't like seeing someone with like 40 tattoos but that's just me. I was thinking about getting one myself; I'm just not to sure.

  • Some tattoos may be bad.. They are vulgar ones.
But there are some good tattoos! The Bible says
treat thy body as like a Temple.. You decorate a Temple so why not decorate your body? I think Tattoos are neat and it is indicative of Ones Spirit or the Spirit they Want people to think they have! A kind of Badge in other words! I don't like needles otherwise I'd get them.. I settle for the temporary ones. I take a dry piece of paraffin wax and brush over the temporary tattoo and then It doesn't matter if it gets wet. Of course as that wax dries the tattoo will eventually fade away. But the wax just makes it last a wee bit longer! Try some temporary ones before you go for the real thing.. I suggest.. they are on Special $1.00 a sheet at www.dollardaysplus.biz reg.. $2.00

  • Its more of a form of expression and just being able to do it because you can.. I was told, if your a woman, and you plan on getting a tatto, never get one located on your lower back. Society has labled lower back tattoos on women as "Tramp Stamps"..LOL And that if you see a woman with that tattoo, she is labled as being easy. But true everyone has the right to get a tattoo any place they want to.
I got my tattoo as a reminder of my college days. I guess most people get them because they feel adding a tatto to their body would make it more beautiful...

  • For some it is something to mark a change in their life, some have real meaning behind them and some think they just look cool.
It is really a form of expression as far as I am concerned~
I have 3 they are all in places that I can hide them but places that I can show them as well.

  • Why is it unacceptable to laugh?
Where on a man's body, do women find sexiest to have a tattoo?
