In my opinion, you should research the indigenous flora of your area and plant not only trees, but shrubs and understorey plants, for carbon sequestration.
This would have the advantages of also providing habitat for indigenous birds, insects and animals, and the indigenous plants should grow well in your area, needing little or no fertilizer and little water.
