hello this is barb c. i saw on the tv the other nite to what they have in regards to phlegm and colds. it is new but,i'm sure if you ask your pharmacist he will tell you and it will help with that problem but, first of all go to your doctor as it might be something that is not appropriate for you or your medical screening that he would know about. this is not a solution but, it is a suggestion that i thought would be of a logical solution without getting the wrong advice that could cause further medical problems-unforseen and that i would not like to hear about. sometimes the easiest answers are right in front of us and we neglect to take heed to them. Also try to drink lots of fluids, not acidity types like juice unless it is not too much plus lots of water to flush out your system and hot soups. just a suggestion. please be well and try to take good care of yourself and do what in your heart feels right.
bye for now and hope to hear good news the next time. Also they have a phone # for over the phone help from a place called telehelp that will give you the proper advice from a registered nurse.
mucolytics such as a drug named Acetylcysteine( Mucomyst) .It directly loosens thick mucous by breaking it down. Its delivered through the inhalation route and is not available over the counter so you may need that drug prescribed. 1st use mucomyst ,this med is to break mucus down then 2nd, use robitussin which you can get over the counter and the drug will then thin the mucus which will allow you to remove the mucus with less forceful coughing. Once the thick mucus is gone for good then you can go to step 3, which is a drug you can get over the counter called dextromethorphan which is included in most severe cold and flu preparation , dextromethorphan will suppress the cough reflex itself by decreasing both the frequency and intensity of cough.
