I use the freeware version of EF Commander to manage files for my website (some files need to be updated each week, but which files need to be updated varies from week to week and it's easier to use a file manager to move the ones that need to be updated from one folder to another). I went to the options in the file manager and selected the appropriate path to 1st Page for opening files to edit. However, when 1st Page tries to open, it hangs, and the only way to close it is to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
Also, if I've already got 1st Page open, a second instance tries to open if I click on a file to edit.
Any ideas on how to select files for editing in one application and have them open in 1st Page?
Open windows explorer
On the menu chose Tools Folder Options
Click the File Types tab
Under Registed file types, type 'h' and then scroll to the 'HTML' selection
Click on the Advanced button below
Look at the Actions: list below - it may vary depending on your setup but it probably has at least an 'Open' and an 'Edit'.
Highlight 'Edit' on the list and then click the 'Edit...' button File Management in OpenOffice.org:: File Format: OpenDocument - View as HTMLResize window to initial page. Let me know how it goes.
That doesn't do what I'm looking for. I'm using a standalone file manager, which has a configuration option for what application to use for editing files which is independent of file type and independent of the Windows defaults. If I try selecting a file in the file manager and then select the edit option, 1st Page still hangs.
Can't help you then - do you have it configured properly in your different file manager. I use PowerDesk (http://www.v-com.com/product/PowerDesk_Pro_Home.html) and it works fine for me there.

If you want to open and edit a page on a server you should use HTML-Kit.

Would this be the same for Windows 2000 Pro DC ? Per your advice, I can't find my folder options. I have been experiencing similar problems with editing on my server. I would rather use 1st Page than Note Pad to gain extra options in editing while opening a file on my server. To do certain changes to a Web Page, I have to open the page with 1st Page, do the editing, and then upload the page. It would be much more convenient to open the page on my server with 1st Page, do the editing, and close the page.
