    hi

today i tried to update xbmc to the newest binary release i could find. the version i tried to install was released 2004-09-03. i just switched the xboxmediacenter.xml with the old ones in c:\ and in e:\apps\xbmc. i also wrote the new path to xboxmediacenter.xml in the tag.

on attempt to boot the screen loads correctly bringing up the first screen with info about modchip, but xbmc fails to load. ok, not so bad so far, well i can`t boot with a dvd with evox and default.xbe on either.

any suggestion of what i could do?

  • i now managed to get hold of another xbox to try my bootdisc and it works perfectly. i also switched both harddrive and dvd-player between the two xboxes and it seems that my harddrive will not boot.

i am not sure what kind of bios i got and i don`t have a chip which i can turn of. and i can`t fire up a dvd movie or game from the dvd player.

i will play around a bit and hopefully find a solution.

    button a chance.

    give it a try :veryangry:

  • each original harddrive is locked for the specific xbox it came with, you have to unlock it (via software like ex. evox) before can move it.
(ps! sound like the bios on your first xbox is set to first boot to harddrive, try flash it with a bios that boots to dvd-rom first instead).

you say you read the manual but it does not look like you have read our faq(?!) => http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/info_faq.htm
    * * * exampel of questions you asked that is answered in our xbmc faq's/q&a's:
Xbox-Hq.Com - Modding the World one Xbox at a Time::
For Christmas, I was given an Xbox with a SmartXX v3 Chip, and XBMC as a dashboard. However, upon upgrading XBMC, it now refuses to go beyond the EvoX

q: can the dvd-rom that came with my xbox™ read cd-r media with audio, video or pics? (http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/info_faq.htm#09) (<= also applies to evox boot disks :p )
q: i have changed to another build of xbmc and get some strange problems, what to do now? (http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/info_faq.htm#16) (<= try default xboxmediacenter.xml)
q: what kind of information do i need to provide when reporting bug/problem or need support? (http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/info_faq.htm#28) (<= yes, we do need all that 'crap')

  • do you know what type of bios your using?

have you been able to boot from an evox boot disc in the past?

and when your saying you can't boot from a disc with a default.xbe i assume you can't even fire up a game on disc? is this the same with your chip turned off (assuming you can switch it off)?

  • yes, this is the support forum

but instead for us to give you a list of possible solutions, why dont you give us a list of what you tried so we can go from there?

and if you cant load even evox from a disc, maybe something is wrong with your xbox? (then how do you expect us to be able to help?)

  • hi again

but instead for us to give you a list of possible solutions, why dont you give us a list of what you tried so we can go from there?

i thought i just did, at least i tried. i tried to explain what i had done and what happened. since i am stuck i thought i could ask in the support forums and then maybe someone had some possible solutions to what i could do to fix it?

and if you cant load even evox from a disc, maybe something is wrong with your xbox? (then how do you expect us to be able to help?)

well if this is the case, then i at least would know what was wrong and could go and buy a new one.

will try to boot up my original harddrive and see what happens.

  • thanks for your reply, my problem is that i already have tried to search for an answer to my problem.
i searched the xboxmediacenter forum and online manual. i also checked out the xbox-scene.com forums and tutorials, and last i tried google.
i could not find any answers to my problem, so then i thought it was ok to ask here?
and btw i did not see any rules about how many post i needed before i could post a thread here for help? isn`t this the support forums for xbmc?

anyway, i think my problem is similar to the problem posted in this thread:

    http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin....;t=6429 (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=st;f=2;t=6429)

the difference is that i can`t boot with evox and just ftp and fix the problem.

i now found this post at xbox-scene.com:
    http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=218408

2: you have evo-x igr (in game reset) active. (disable it!) (use a x2 bios or a patched m7/m8 version)

how can i disable this when i can`t even manage to boot from dvd?

    so any other constructive suggestions?
