  • Thanks for the info. Made me remember how much I disliked the old AC paint scheme. <yuck>

There are payload restrictions on the YYZ/DEL route.

  • YES http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif we might get some Asia routes back if we manage to buy these planes!

  • From what I have gathered, the 2 A345s are not sold. There have been some positive vibes from TLS stating that the two birds will likely be delivered to AC in mid Jan 2004 pending the outcome of the CCAA....

Well it nice to know its still awaiting AC to purchase them.[Picture is dated Dec 27th]
The 346's, that AC had ordered, I was told they were cancelled any truth to this?

  • Current plan is for the 74Es to stick around until the winter schedule is over (Apr 04).

  • The Combis are here to stay until at least the summer sked 2004 starts.

To the best of my knowledge, the A345s are not sold yet.

The C checks for the 744s have always been done in SIN. A company there specializes in that. This dates back to the CP days.

  • That's interesting empress as I heard that Boeing just gave us excellent lease rates on the remaining combis (300 000/mo as opposed to 1 mill) as a sweetner to keep them running and that they would sweeten the deal further if the 717 was bought with extra 747 machines.

Interesting as I was flying home from NZ today two people on the plane were chatting how they can't fly with AC to Asia like they used to http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif I gave the the FT web site.
They miss the NRT flight. The one guy said AC has agreed to buy the 345's ???
Lets hope the Union does not drag the CCAA out forever.

For me, I think AC can use them on YYZ-DEL without weight restriction. Or could start a YVR-SYD or YYZ-HKG with them.

But my worry is.. If AC is only planning to take just the 2 planes, then it is better at trying to lease an aircraft which is already in their fleet. But if AC is planning to take the A346s or more A345s, then this will be good. The irony is AC needs to put these Ultra long haulers into the ultra long haul market to see if pax will fly these long haul.. If so, then more can be acquired in the future to expand other potential ultra long haul routes

  • Here's the latest photo of one of the 345s:

  • Not that the "newer" paint scheme is much better. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

  • Don't think that it's true. Haven't heard anything about that and I know that the B717 is not really high on the consideration list at this point.

  • The YVR-NRT flight is delayed for 4 hours today. The 744 has gone mechanical, they have just towed it to the hanger. Not a good ending!

  • interesting we are sending 747-400 to the desert and last week I was flying on an Iberian 747-200 and the FA's would prefer these old planes over the newer 340-300's

  • maybe we will get lucky and AC will keep the 744 longer, I prefer them over the 340.... but I dont think I have been AC's 744's its the Combi that are sticking around.

  • An update:

J class pitch expansion to 60" has been delayed -

FIN341 will now be completed on 25NOV.
FIN342 will now be completed on 02DEC.
FIN343 will now be completed on 09DEC.

  • "Spirit of fromYYZ_flyer" still remains.

    Would anyone like a flight?

  • Glad I got my last ride in on Oct 17 on 161. Sad to see them go.

  • At the price of the new lease how could AC say no to keeping the 747's http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif With the loading to HKG they should fly them to ASIA.

As much as I was a great fan of Wardair and Canadian Airlines, I assure you the spirit of Max Ward is alive and well on AC's balance sheet, as it was with CP.

  • today in the Globe the artice said AC is looking to Brazil for planes.... So 717 is not in the running.

Maybe they could do something like a blue with maybe a bird or something on the side, like a native Canadian bird. I bet it would look pretty sharp http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

  • Totally bummed - I loved the B744's to Asia..When travelling J class always got a seat in the upper deck - small, quiet, always nice service. Not a big fan of 767's to Asia.
I cannot believe that they would not fill a 747 to Hong Kong - anytime I took the flight it is always full!

Anyways AC has been flying the 747's since the early 70's, too bad the end of an era is near.

Any thoughts on when the 74E's are going out?

  • Empress ...news around the "shop" is that if we purchase the B717 from Boeing that we may augment the livery of 747-400C's to a max of 9. Also hear that this is because RM wants to kick start AC Cargo again.....any truth to these rumours?

    thx

Checks for the B747's were done in Montreal back in the early 1990's and then they were shipped out of house to save on the high tooling and training costs for a limited fleet size. The work has bewen done at various times in Paris by Air France, Aukland by Air NZ, Hong Kong by HAECO, and for the last few years in Singapore.

The result of getting rid of the 747 line at Air Canada was an ability then to take on work for B767 and Airbus 340 and 330 fleets.

  • Addition to the first post: FIN385 will be heading to SIN for maintenance before being returned to lessor in mid Nov.

  • New Zealand is going to be busy they are refitting all 8 of the 744 they own. Spending $200 on 8 planes to refurbish the interior???? My god whats a used 744 worth these days?

Fin 303 was the first aircraft to get the new colour scheme.

  • Hey, Empress, maybe you can answer a somewhat related 747 question for me: I have a promo item AC handed out a while back (I think after they went with new paint scheme) that's approx 3 foot long cardboard 747 nicely detailed on both sides. I think they were given to TA's to display in agencies and this one did for a while before I saved it from the trash. Anyway, the FIN is 303 and the other only identifying marking is C-FTOC just behind the aft door. What's the backgrounder of that 747?

    Just curious...

Hmm, seems like an expesively small fleet. Taken with the decision to keep the 146's around for a while, and you have to wonder if fleet rationalization is really a priority at AC.

  • Very, very sad news. No more Spirit of Max Ward.
