Wonder where Mr. Brown was in all this at AC? He was head of Bombardier's aircraft division but fired by Tellier, went across the field to chair AC's borad of directors as it went through CCRA?
Interesting ... think a little payback may have been done by influencing the decision towards Embraer?

why Bombardier is already dead
""The passenger has voted overwhelmingly over the last two decades," Mr. Ridolfi {of Bombardier} says he can't imagine passengers booking around CRJs to get on an Embraer, just for the extra comfort. "It's just not going to happen ... I still expect to win my share" of orders."
He obviously bumped his head too many times on the CRJ.
Here are a few of my favourite things... from the article:
how they got RM interested
"Mr. Milton was in his office one day in spring 2001 when a package arrived. There was a personal DVD player inside and a note asking him to turn it on. There on the screen was Embraer CEO Mauricio Botelho with a message. "Hello, Robert," he began, in a thick Portuguese accent. A cutaway of Embraer's new jet was heading to Dorval International Airport, Mr. Botelho said on screen. Would Mr. Milton kindly visit when it arrived?" Newest Flight Stories - Flightstory.net:: He circled for over an hour , ( presumably burning off fuel ?) , then announced we were going in to land. The plane a Embraer 190 had about 100 people http://www.flightstory.net/newHOME | M&A Analysis and Research on Aircraft Industry of P.R.C 2007:: Hafei Aviation Industry Co., Ltd took part of producing over parts of A320 . the best thing Embraer did
"Next, it turned to passengers. RJs were cramped and got low marks for comfort."
does it take more fuel to run a Civic with 2 people or a minivan with 8
"Rising oil prices, meanwhile, made 50-seat jets less economical."
the smartest thing anyone said
"Mr. Bedford, who has ordered 39 big Embraer jets for Republic's Chautauqua Airlines unit, to provide feeder service to major airlines including Delta. Customers will "ultimately pay a small premium to fly a clearly superior product," he says."

On the door, the ceiling, the side, or all of the above?
Or maybe he tripped down the steps?
Though it isn't said in any of the three parts of the article, this profile of Embraer is a pretty strong indictment against Paul Tellier who failed miserably at Bombardier and delayed their decision for too long. [I guess the wonderkind was good at chopping jobs at a fat RR to turn a profit, but couldn't handle a real business operation.] Wonder where Mr. Brown was in all this at AC? It's not clear to me that either of them did a wonderful job. But to be fair, this never was an easy decision. Bombardier was working on development of the 3-2 plane already back in the late nineties too. The difference with Bombardier is that when they looked at the cash flow and the risks involved, they decided it was not worth it. While in contrast, Embraer, which was then in the challenger position, decided to take the gamble.
It was then and still is a huge gamble. Bombardier never invested such a huge sum in such a risky proposition. If it were my money, I am by no means clear that I would have gone for it. Furthermore, remember that airliners are not known as cash cows, more like prestige projects. Bombardier makes their money on corporate planes, a market that's coming back nicely BTW.
Of course, hindsight is always good. If BB would have known in advance of 9/11, I could imagine that they would have gone ahead?
This has been running in the FiNANCIAL POST since Saturday. [Thought the link had been posted on the ongoing RJ thread, which I didn't bother reading beyond the 2nd page.] Very interesting account, and gives so much credit to RM, particularly for getting JetBlue onside. Reads like RM and DN are friends, which might also explain why JetBlue has stayed away from Canada?
Too bad the article doesn't talk about the flyin AC held for you guys, which seemed to influence the AC decision toward Embraer as much as anything else.

More proof that people who work for Bombardier are dwarves who just don't get it. He's been breathing exhaust fumes.

That, after sitting in row 12 right behind the lavatory so he could smell the poopoo too.
