I got a few tattoos resently and i have a star thats on my underarm, down from my wrist, and I have one even newer on my calf. The tattoo on my arm has scabbed up and been rubbed off and there are now gaps were its just red and no ink or scab is there...I presume I will need to get it touched up when its done , but I am afraid most of the one on my leg will scab up and fall out too. Should I be afraid? What should I do to make sure the ink doesnt come out? Will keeping it moisturized twice a day keep it from scabbing?
You should be using A&D ointment or Tattoo Fix at least twice a day. All tattoos will scab at some point, that's not the problem. The big thing to remember is that you shouldn't pick or mess with the scab at all. Color will fade and even the best artists will offer to retouch. You mentioned red? Red in my experience is the hardest color to hold first time around. We've always had to have the red retouched at the very least.
Don not use lotion or Vaseline (they can drain the color and don't allow the art to breathe). You should have received a care sheet from the artist, read it. If you didn't, call and inquire if they have one. If they don't, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! All legitimate parlors will offer care instructions. Good luck!
i dont know but i strongly suggest going back to where you had the tattoo done, or another tattoo parlour and asking their expert opinion and advice
Did your artist not give you care instructions? You should be putting A&D ointment on it to CONSTANTLY keep it moist until it heals... not twice a day
If the scabs are so thick that your color is coming off, then you aren't taking care of your tattoo. If you can't take the time to care for it, then save your money. Even touched up they aren't ever going to look the same.
put vaseline on it. do NOT put lotion on it, it'll ruin it. just use vaseline.
well you are supposed to keep lotion on it so that it doesn't do that. and when i scabs don't try to scratch it off make sure not to try to do any-thin with it other then put lotion on it. and you have to get tattoos touched up no matter what you do cuz they always fade
I have two tattoos, 1 from a year ago, and 1 I just got yesterday. Aftercare of the tattoo is essential to keep the image crisp and dark.
You should have washed it after taking the bandages off a few hours after the tattoo was done. Just like any open wound that you would get it will scab no matter what you do.
Use an unscented skin moisturizer 2-3 times per day to keep it from drying out too much. When in the shower, don't let the spray directly hit the tattoo, you should keep it clean, but can't get it soaked. Also, gently pat dry the tattoo, you don't want a rubbing towel pulling the scab off.
Don't scratch it, anywhere the scab falls off prematurely is where ink will fade.
It's also normal to see ink on your bedsheets in the morning, that's normal, it's just excess from the scab. You may also see "chunks" of ink on your sheets, they're just pieces of the top layer of the scab falling off - nothing to worry about.
After a while, the scab will fall off by itself, and you won't have to use the moisturizer anymore, your ink is permanent.
uh-oh! i read a magazine article once where this girl got a big infection from getting a tattoo and needed like major surgery to remove all the infected skin. i hope you don't need that surgery! i would go see a Dr. right away.
I heard that scabbing it a sign of a poorly done tattoo (or improperly taken care of). Make sure you are letting the scabs fall off naturally and not picking at them. My tattoo (week old) is starting to scab up in the very top right of it on my hip bone, and I have been using aquaphor on it twice everyday and doing exactly what I have been told.
With this being said, it seems natural that it will scab up. Just make sure you take good care of tattoo and it should turn out just fine
