ok so i recently got ubuntu 8.04 and yes i am a complete novice with ubuntu i am only used to windows but reall fancied a change as i have heard all about the cool 3d effects and stuff and im gettin sick of vista to be honest. Anyway i was just wondering when you run a terminal to do something and it asks for your [sudo] password, is this the password you log on with? Because in the terminal it say:

and i cant type anything after that unless i first press enter so it goes to the next line, so i press enter and type my login password and it says:

Yes, it's your normal log on password. It won't show the figures you're typing though, so although you might not think you're typing anything, you are - just pop your password in, hit enter then it should be fine!

Persevere with Ubuntu - it really does outshine all the other OS's in my very humble opinion :)

You just type your normal password. Don't press enter first, it doesn't show you typing as a security measure (so someone looking over your shoulder can't see how long your password is).
When it says sudo password for ryan, just type in your password you log in with. The characters do not appear so as just type it in and hit enter.
