Sounds like a strange one. Any chance you can send me the jpg of the page i tested it on cs thumbnail beta1e, i found no problem, it wasnt upside down,

i am using the 10-17-05 build.
i installed three emulators. everything went swimmingly. they all work perfectly. when i shut the xbox off, two of them had their own thumbnail files, one didn't. it was using the default folder icon. a little while later, i started the xbox back up to find that all the icons for my emulators now share a single image. they're all the gameboy emulator icon. i went in & cleaned out the images from xbmc's thumbnail cache. i then went & removed the default.tbn, which i verified to be the gameboy thumbnail, from the two folders than shouldn't have it. i restarted the xbox, they each had the same thumbnail again. i ftped in again and saw that the exact same icons had been restored.

i'm getting this. in some instances, instead of showing the 'no-icon icon' it shows my super mario war icon. it (smw) is in my "homebrew games" section of my programs bookmark. the programs that have the smw icon are in my apps (my programs bookmark) -- but still, some programs still get the 'no-icon icon' (neighbours from hell, worms 4d), but bookmarks for some iconless emulators and like.. xcommander and my xbox controller test are all getting the smw icon.
it is weird stuff, and i don't know how to fix it either mate ;)

well, if nothing else, i can take solace in knowing that i'm not the only one. :d
i'm having this same exact problem. i'm using xbmc 2006-04-21. super mario war v1.6 is taking over a ton of my other homebrew icons and even some of my app icons. the only way i've fixed this is by deleting super mario war v1.6, deleting the super mario war save game file and then reinstalling xbmc.
