It'd be a whole lot of bad PR if they aren't cut some sort of break on that one. $30 * 6 * 7 = $1260

From the Seattle PI:
"Bill for rental car trapped 43 days by flood: $871
Thrifty is 'going to be fair' under circumstances"

Sounds like a reasonable outcome for both parties.

Why should Thrifty cut them a break? I know their situation is bad, but they had an opportunity to purchase extra coverage that would have prevented this charge and chose (as many of us do) not to purchase the coverage. When they turned down the coverage, they agreed to assume the risk for whatever happened to the car. It seems to me that it would set a bad precedent for Thrifty to pay for this, sort of sending a message that if you don't purchase the coverage and something really bad happens to you, don't worry, we'll cover it anyway. I rent from Thrifty frequently, and Thrifty's behavior in this situation will have no impact on whether or not I rent from them again in the future.
