I just got star alliance gold, through U.S. Air. What exactly are my benefits going to be on A/C. For example I am traveling from toronto to NYC on thursday? Bad ideas go viral: US Airways starts charging for aisle and :: Apr 17, 2008 And don’t get me started about Lufthansa. Even with United elite status that afforded Star Alliance Gold recognition, I somehow always got http://www.upgradetravelbetter.com/2008/04/17/bad-ideas-go-viral-us-airways-starts-charging-for-aisle-and-window-seats/HOME |
do I get lounge access?
upgrades?
Priority anything?
Also, since l litteraly just got the status change, will I have problems with the lounges/services?
Except AC ain't anywhere near being bankrupt. Unlike the airlines in the U.S., AC has already come out of bankruptcy protection.
*A Gold Benefits on the AC site (https://www.aeroplan.com/en/rewards/star_alliance_benefits.jsp)
You can't upgrade with an AC upgrade certificate like a regular AC status member can. The ways you can upgrade are with an AC status companion who is upgrading or is already in paid biz/first class. Your other hope is through operational upgrades (which aren't common, at least from my experience). You have free access to the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges (http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/airport/maplelounges/index.html) as well. You get the typical priority check-in, priority boarding, etc. How does Qantas frequent flyer work? - Vogue Australia:: 7 posts - Last post: Jun 24, 2004I am considering transferring my 130000 amex points to frequent . It's better flying with Star Alliance carriers than Oneworld carriers. http://forums.vogue.com.au/showthread.php?t=7044HOME |
Welcome to *A :)
I would phone and ask US if they can update your ticket to show your status. Also, if their programs website shows your new status print a copy and carry it with you.
This question could probably be answered better in the US forum, but members of AP (including myself) have used these suggestions when reaching Elite status and have had no problems using lounges etc before receiving their package.
Thanks, I will likely never step foot on a US Air plane, but it was the easiest to get comped for AC purposes.
What terminal am I flying out of YYZ-LGA ??
is there a lounge there?
You might also consider using your US Airways *gold card to access the lounges but open an Aeroplan account and credit the flight miles to it. It means you wouldn't have priority check-in (though electronic kiosks are much faster than standing in the priority line) and flash your US *gold card to the gate agent during the priority boarding process (if that would work). Since you indicated in another post that you'd be flying AC alot, you might want to build status with them. Always best to have status with the carrier you are using regularly for upgrade purposes (both op-ups, though rare, and the upgrade certificates), bonus miles, etc. Of course, if you won't fly AC enough to gain *gold with them (currently 35,000 miles) and are just using the USAir status to make travel easier for this one year, knowing the status will be gone next year, than why bother?

My answer about Terminal 2 is assuming that you are flying AC metal YYZ-LGA.
It gets you special benefits from some of the finest bankrupt airlines in the world.

Terminal 2 (all the way to the left).
Yes, there is a lounge, a straight walk ahead from security.

My apologies. It gets you special benefits from some of the finest bankrupt airlines in the world, as well as the world's most recently bankruptcy-emerged airline.
Going from USA to Canada, I doubt that you would get lounge access with US Air's or UA lounges, even with Star Alliance Gold status - one needs a paid membership to get into those lounges.
However, one's Star Alliance Gold status is sufficient to obtain access to an Air Canada (Maple Leaf) lounge, even for Canada to US or Canada to Canada travel.
PS-You did not indicate which airline you are using to travel from Toronto to NYC. I presume it is Air Canada or United. If you are using US Air (which would require a connection via one of their hubs), to my knowledge, one must still use Terminal 3 - if that is the case, then there would be no lounge access.

It seems that its only for 'international' flights in the us->but canada is considered a INTL flight for Duty free, checkin etc... so that might work, but its mostly a toronto connection thing, I fly to some jacked up places in canada, and its a pain to connect off of NW to ____ in toronto. This way I can atleast start flying A?C metal the whole time.

Thats the whole purpose. I did this, cause I never would earn the miles for A/C (despite what has to be one of the lowest thresholds I have seen), and because I can. this way I can fly untied too, which I never do cause what is the point around the us, to some of their east coast locations that I have been drving to.
