I have had bronchitis most of this year and lately I have been coughing up dark brown substance from my lungs and the other day I some blood came out. My dad was recently diagnosed with cancer and my aunt and grandparents have all died from cancer from the lungs. I am 23 years-old and my doctor at work got a little concerned about this and she sent me some medications to calm my bronchitis down. She wants me to do some tests to my lungs to make sure everything is OK. I do smoke and have been for about 10 years, right now I am smoking about 5 cigarettes a day since my health has been bad and since my dad was diagnosed. I was smoking about a pack to a pack and a half a day.
My only concern is should I be worried about cancer at my age or could it be something else? YOU SHOULD BE VERY WORRIED.
you need to see a doctor!!!
without being there i can't tell you what you are coughing up but it is possible you are coughing up tar from your lungs.
there is no way to know what is going on without a bunch of lab tests and a full exam from a doctor. constant chest pressure, hemoptysys, tight throat, Hoarseness :: 13 posts - Last post: Jan 3, 2006Bronchitis and normal condition in tertiary bronchus what can cause that and should i be concerned about cancerAcute lymphocytic http://www.medhelp.org/forums/RespiratoryDisorders/messages/2333.htmlHOME | All JEMS Articles:: What should you be concerned about, and how should this patient be managed? It could be many things. No matter what it is, and YES--it might be cancer at your age!--it's not good. You're punishing your lungs. QUIT smoking--don't just cut it down. You will not solve your addiction that way.
Yes, it's possible it could be cancer; cancer doesn't care how old you are. One way or another, you have to stop smoking and take care of yourself. You only get one set of lungs.
wow..that sucks..lol.uhm i guess just keep checking up with your docter.
stop smoking or you will die,not from cancer but from lung failure because of your bronchitis a very dangerous mix...
As someone who suffers from chronic bronchitis: smoking is bad for you. I know that you already know that, but I mean, really bad for you. It is probably the reason you haven't been able to get over your sickness. If I spend even a few days with a relative who smokes I feel awful: I wheeze when breathing, cough great whooping coughs that occasionally make my throat bleed, and just generally feel awful. And I have smoked only two cigarettes in my entire life. If your lungs or respiratory system are already having a hard time than cancer or no you should really give them a break. And if you are worried about cancer: all the more reason. It sucks to be in your early twenties and have people look at you like you are contagious or dying from that cough that won't go away. Do you have any asthma? I would say get an inhaler and some nicotine gum or something ... try to give your body a rest from all that smoke.
I don't know, but I will add you to my prayers, (())
Get the nicotine patch and try to quit smoking altogether. Of course cancer of the lungs is a concern for heavy smokers. You are quite young but you have been smoking heavily for ten years. Do not worry yourself sick about it, but do what your Doctor tells you to do. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. My Mom died in February of lung cancer.
It is still possible to heal yourself if you put your mind to it and quit the ciggie habit. Its very hard, I know from experience, but you CAN do it. DO IT. You are in the process of quitting and you will experience a lot of yucky stuff coughed up from your lungs when you are quitting. Good luck.
well usually constant bronchitis could lead to pneumonia or tonsilitis.i would get the tests done. smoking plays a big role in bronchal infections. and smoking can cause lung cancer and bronchal infections being a sign.
You should be concerned.
Maybe find a healthier place to live as well as sticking with cutting back on smoking
Some city's are sooooo dirty even quitting smoking wont work.
Instead of blaming smog ie air pollution it is easier to blame it all on smokers.
Take care of yourself and keep taking different antibiotics. Our bodies get used to antibiotics, so talk to doctor. Infections are not good!
I have terrible farting problems :'( pleasee help?
My dog is suffering from pneumonia, what is the treatment for this?
