Wasn't the struggles of Robin and his merry men against the heavy taxation's imposed by prince John which was starving many common people. Wasn't it prince John who he was antagonizing.
Robin Hood stole from the aristocracy; known to be the government of its time. In a round about way; Robin Hood did relieve the rich to establish justice by spreading the wealth. The Orange Grove: The real meaning of Robin Hood - Opinion :: To prove my point, Robin Hood did not steal from rich merchants, he only stole (retrieved taxes) from the local and national authorities, the sheriff and http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/opinion/homepage/article_1722659.phpHOME |
Robin Hood is an archetypal figure in English folklore, whose story originates from medieval times but who remains significant in popular culture where he is painted as a man known for robbing the rich to give to the poor and fighting against injustice and tyranny. His band consists of a "seven score" group of fellow outlawed yeomen ⠓ called his "Merry Men".[1] He has been the subject of numerous films, television series, books, comics, and plays. In the earliest sources Robin Hood is a commoner, but he would often later be portrayed as the dispossessed Earl of Huntingdon. There is no consensus as to whether or not Robin Hood is based on any historical figure and little reliable historical evidence exists to support either side of this debate. I was reared on the edge of the Jesse James country out in Missouri, and I visited the James farm at Kearney, Missouri, where the son of Jesse James was there living.
His wife told me stories of how Jesse robbed trains and held up banks and then gave money to the neighboring farmers to pay off their mortgages.
Jesse James probably regarded himself as an idealist at heart, just as Dutch Schultz, "Two-Gun" Crowley, Al Capone and many other organized crime "godfathers" did generations later. The fact is that all people you meet have a high regard for themselves and like to be fine and unselfish in their own estimation. J. Pierpont Morgan observed, in one of his analytical interludes, that a person usually has two reasons for doing a thing; one that sounds good and a real one.
I don't know but Obama is not trying to be Robin Hood, what he wants to do like most other industrialized democratic nations do is create a system that actually taxes the rich like the rest of us. The wealthy in this country not only pay astoundingly low taxes, they pay virtually no taxes on immense fortunes with the help of accountants and tons of corporate loopholes. Unfortunately, he did a horrible job explaining it to Joe The Plumber and went into this "let's help other people" thing which Americans hate. The big issue and what Americans fail to understand is that huge huge corporations are trumping our abilities to start businesses.
