They will record the natural sound of the instrument with a Microphone for some of the tracks, and have you play right into a proscessor that goes into the mixing board the rest of the time.
It means that you are recording the instrument with a mic, AND a "direct input" to the mixer, where the instrument is plugged directly into the mixer,
