Perhaps this is a little too basic, but forgive me: I'm a little new to this.
I plan to travel to Chicago from Ann Arbor fairly frequently over the next few months. The Rail Sale prices are definitely making me not drive or fly the trip. But I have a concern: What if I buy tickets for a certain train and I either miss that train or decide to take one earlier in the day. Is that possible? Under normal fares, I believe it is, which makes the train very attractive. But what penalty am I subject to if I don't go on the train I buy my discounted tickets for? Or am I simply kicked off the train? Hope not. Thanks for the info. The rules and regs are available if you click on the link at the bottom of the link you listed.
Note the "....fares are valid for reserved coach seating only and are not valid for the Canadian portion of joint Amtrak/VIA Rail Service...." provision. I guess this would preclude most or all date, train etc changes.

The rotating rail sale page with weekly specials of 80-90% off:
http://tickets.amtrak.com/Amtrak/railsale?storefront=1003&pageID=main&railSaleFlag=true&externalCall=true
I bought a RailSale ticket and due to a change in travel plans, could not use it.
Eventhough the ticket I received appeared to indicate the ticket did not expire until 2004 (travel date + 12 months), the Amtrak agent confirmed what I feared, the ticket was good only on date/time of travel. Zero value after that.

Since the tickets are good only on the specific train/date you've been ticketed for, if you opt to travel on a different date/train, the Conductor will likely ask you to purchase a new ticket for whichever train you happen to be on. HTH.
No refund ability? Here in the northeast corridor, most Amtrak tickets are as good as cash - just show up near the date of use, say you could not use them and get a refund. By the way, I did not read the T&C's for this sale.
I recently got some Rail Sale tickets. It is true that the tickets show a validity for 1 year. I believe that is a quirk in Amtrak system.
However, it clearly states - NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES - UPGRADES ON BOARD ONLY VALID PHOTO ID REQUIRED.
I believe that endorsement overrides the validity date.
