I was trying to look for a flight YOW-LHR in a couple of weeks. Aeroplan site only offer me star alliance flights for 100K (First?) but none of the AC flights I was expecting. Looking at seatcounter, lots of 9s, very good Js and some decent Is so I am not expecting this.

The trick to avoid the India Call center is to request for a French speaking agent. I have done that with Primus, Bell and AC.
the SE need to be one of the person travelling and it needs to be identical itinery of International J which is a hit for SE's with family that might want to join them of part of the trip.
It's not quite that restrictive if you're using IKK in conjunction with a paid J/C/Z fare - only one international segment must be shared.
Maria at AE said there was nothing she could do because I had noforwarding issue from IT (the code saying there was a problem and would not waive fee to book by phone).
Maybe she was distracted by the winery?
There were J/C seats and Y/M/U and even some other economy classes such as B or H on the return but I suspect the flight may be oversold or those Y/M/U are overselling seats since there are available business seats. But I can get leisure seats on aircanada.com for about $1100++ so it cannot be that oversold. If the plane is not completely sold out but Y is oversold but less than the number of J/C seats, I should be able to IKK business class seats IMO... I think this is a call situation since my other option is CO Y award

I did on a recent domestic booking.Long story short.....

Air Canada can continue to sell economy seats at various fares levels, even if the plane is completely sold out - to take account of the "no show" factor, AC may be trying to oversell the flight, so that the flight actually is (not less than) full at the time of departure.
However, I would indeed agree with you to check with the AC SE telephone agent, first. The web site could be wrong in showing the absence of J award seats for a SE.
Do you know if as a whole, the flight is sold out, or even oversold - even though there are business class seats available? If the answer is yes, then even SEs will be unable to get awards through IKK. However, if I were you, I would check with the telephone Aeroplan SE agent; the web site has been known to make mistakes.

Ss far as I know, there has been no limitation on SE by themselves. If anyone knows differently, I would be interested to know.
Just making sure: is the OP aware of IKK castration? Looks like that might be what hit him?

Do you think the IT person was from the call center in India or Montreal? I think the call center in India is run by IBM and I think they have to contribute something towards the booking fee when they admit to a bug and forward to AC on a fee waived basis.
The Indian call center is very reluctant to admit to an issue and forward it to AC on a fee waived basis which is absolutely ridiculous since there is not the control over the AE website to get you what you want to come up, even those that some up easily on aircanada.com.
I have had issues that took longer than your half hour with Indian call center not admitting to any issue and I think it is a waste of my time since an experienced agent could have booked it in 5-10 minutes than the 45+ mins I was being bonced around with frustration mounting all the time. If they pay for the call center, not sure if by time or by call and AC may actually pay more money due to the low productivity and lost good will.

I had done a number of IKKs and were forced once or twice to pay the fee when the website did not give me what I wanted but have only had one major issue about not able to IKK before when the flight I want was oversold.
No more IKK for international destinations, except under very restricted conditions.

Unfortunately, only twice have a client paid for biz class so it is not likely that I would be on paid J/C/Z to take advantage of it.
