So I picked it up the other day, and having played the PES/Winning Eleven Series for years now (including Konami's ISS '98, ISS 64, and two MLS games), and it's a pretty solid game. Not really controlling one player, but also players off the ball, makes the game feel much more realistic, as you're controlling the entire team.
If anyone has it, let me know. I'd like to get into some games or tournaments on the online WFC.

I'm never played any modern video games but got the Wii as a gift and bought this soccer game and it is SOOOO much fun! Pro Evolution Wii Boxart, new vids, new info, appreciation thread | VG :: The latest videogame sales charts from around the world for Nintendo Wii Sony PES 2008 is also the first Konami Wii title to make use of Nintendos highly http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=16830HOME |
Interesting that most team and player names are real and accurate through about the beginning of 2008 but that most (except Tottenham) EPL team names (though not the players) are fake. On the USMNT, the player names are fake. I figured out some pretty quickly and changed them as you can do that for example:
"Dotan" = Donovan GoNintendo Blog Archive PES 2009 press release hits, no mention of :: the Wii version or PES different, PES 2009 on Wii will come. Kind of weird, considering, if Im not mistaken, PES 2008 sold the best on the Wii. http://gonintendo.com/?p=47181HOME |
loan forward = Eddie Johnson
right winger = Dempsey
left winger = Convey
centerbacks = Bocanegra and Conrad
right back = Albright (can also play forward)
gk = Howard
holding mids = Bradley and (I think) Rico Clark
reserve forward = Twellman ("Twillman" I think)
Again, I forget most of the fake names but like "Dotan" and "Twillman" most are pretty easy to figure out based on their physical looks and their position.
ANYONE FIGURE OUT THE REST?!?
I got it. Would love to find a way to get/create MLS teams.
I got it too. I need to look up my friend code.
Great game so far! I finally won a few last night online (I think I'm 2-12!).
Fun online, but I've already gotten tired of people picking Barca - but that's probably true on any game.
I like to play as Rangers, Heerenveen, Galatasaray, and the US online. Or Man U if some hoser picks Barca! Had a great Rangers/Chelsea game last night, but couldn't hold off Drogba at the end. I think it was 3-2. Pretty fair result for Rangers I'd say.
My Champions Road team is called "Dallas" and has Red/White hoops, so its as close as I can get! I was bummed when I played Heerenveen and couldn't pick Michael Bradley's card.
I'm loving it. Hope I can play some more this week.
I finally got PES2008 for the Wii a few weeks ago, and I can't stop playing it. The point-and-click interface is awesome -- much better than FIFA 08 for the Wii, IMHO.
I'd like to find some human opponents for my Champions Road side. I've won two of the four Level 3 leagues in Champions Road so far, and one misplayed back pass on Tuesday led to a goal that prevented me from winning a third Level 3 league. (I'm still annoyed by that, too.) So far my team has three Americans -- McBride, Beasley and Bradley -- Roque Santa Cruz, Phillippe Senderos and several other random Premier Leaguers.
So if anyone else out there wants to play me on WiiConnect, send me a PM, and we'll hook it up. Oh, and if anyone has figured out how to create characters with Miis, let me know. The computer put a team full of Miis in front of me last week. It was strange seeing my old roommate up front, Jack Black on the wing, Charlie Brown and Lucy as full backs and Darth Vader in goal. (McBride beat Vader twice. The Force is strong with that one... :D )
