Instead, they want him in a cage in front of our house, they prefer that our Dachsund is caged in front of our house, rather that letting him stay in our front yard, where he has room, unlike the small cage they force him into...

How do I tell my parents to keep him in the front yard, and not in the cage?

They say that he's jsut gonna make a mess, even if I walk him twice a day, and he does that.

He's a 4-year old Dachsund, but I don't think he enjoys the cage, he 's still barking in that small cage...

Any way to persuade my parents to allow him to stay in our front yard? It's enclosed, but has alot of room for him. So he won't wander off, and can move around. I want to see my dog enjoy, but he can't enjoy in that little cramped up cage...

  • thats animals cruelty if his in a small cage out the front!

tell them that you will clean up his poop in the front yard if you let him out and its best to give dogs a big area to roam around in.

why dont you put him in the backyard?

  • I would NEVER leave a little dog in a yard unattended... do you know how often they get stolen? Keeping a dog in a crate for a few hours a day is fine, as long as he gets enough attention, exercise, and human interaction the other times... keep the crate indoors, though.

  • There's really no point in you having a dog if it's just going to be stuck in a cage.
There are plenty of behavioral problems and health problems that can occur from that. Not to mention the poor thing would be miserable.

From what you've said, apparently you love the dog...but your parents are the problem.

I know this might be difficult to do, but maybe you should consider giving the dog to a no-kill shelter. There, he could be adopted out. I'm sure he's go VERY fast, too, Daschunds are incredibly popular. And, he wouldn't have to live in a cage his entire life...he's be able to chill on the couch and hang out with his family.

I really do hope you will consider this...well, I hope your parents will suddenly change their mind, but having lived with parents like that when I was a child, I know it's unlikely. And, by keeping your pup in those conditions, he is the one that suffers. You certianly love him, but by keeping him and him having to live in those conditions, it's selfish.

Remember, you have plenty on time to have dogs. In the future when you're out living on your own, you'll be able to have a dog and provide a wonderful life for it...but now maybe you should give your dog now a chance at better home.

I wish you good luck with him. It's sad that your parents are the way they are...but the only thing you can do in this situation is try to fix it for your dog. :)

  • If the yard is secure so he can't get out/other dogs and dangers can't get in and you're willing to train some yard manners into him ie no digging or fence fighting neighbor's dogs, why not let him out? Tell them you'll be responsible for what he does in the yard, if he digs a trench like my new puppy has done a couple of times when I first got her, you'll have to fill it up and plant new grass seed....Hope I helped, good luck.

  • Not quite sure I understand the dog's living conditions. Does he stay in the cage all the time? Or just when no one can attend to him? Do you want him to live in the yard as an outside dog? Can't the concrete be cleaned?

If he stays in the cage 24/7 except for potty walks, that is cruel. If you leave him outdoors 24/7, that is no life for a little dachshund either.

  • Dachshunds are not meant to be strictly outside dogs. During the winter she should be an inside dog. They do not have undercoats like most dogs, so they get cold very easily. I hope you keep her inside when it is cold!

Keeping her in a cage is not a suitable living situation for any dog. You should tell your parents that it is cruel to leave her in the cage like that. She needs proper shelter/exercise. Not to mention the fact that it is getting hot outside so she will need to be sheltered from the sun, and have access to water at all times. Putting the cage in the shade does not protect her from the sun. She needs to be able to move around and enjoy life!

Dachshunds also need to be socialized. Dachshunds often develop seperation issues. She should be considered part of the family and able to interact with all of the family members. Don't keep her locked up away from the family.

  • I need help getting my parents to let me get a dog!?
Does anyone have a way to get my parents to let me got another pet? I already have a dog and he loves animals.
