My cats giving birth, what should I do?!?

Welcome to:hznm.com

  • We have 7 cats in total, 1 male, 6 female, and 5 are pregnant, and one has just gone into labor!! She is yowling and her mate is by her side. She has been trying to push for ages, and her contractions are getting worse, she has pushed now for 1 hour, but nothing has came, what should I do?!

  • Living on a farm is no excuse. The neutering of the male would have been really cheap (although the females could have wondered off and gotten pregnant anyway). Talk to a shelter about any catch and release programs they or other shelters in the area might have. Usually this involves live trapping the cat, spaying/neutering, and then marking the cat (they may trim the tip of the ear off... yeah... it kind of sucks... but it is better than re-catching the cat and wasting another round of anethesia only to find out it has already been spayed).

If you have 5 pregnant cats, and all 5 give birth to at least 4 kittens, you now have 5 more cats running around.

Hopefully your barn cat is already and doesn't cost you a c-section.

  • um go to the vet or get some tools

  • Ask the vet about what to do when the rest of your cats have their kittens, and make appointments to get them spayed after the kittens are gone. Start looking for homes now.
    My Life As A Midwife::
I have always suspected that I do this because I was not able to be present . After giving birth to her own four cats, she then took in Tiffany's three

How do I know my cat is going into labour? . The majority of cats are quite capable of giving birth without assistance, therefore it is your role to take

And keep an eye on the male. Cats aren't like us, he may be keeping his friend company or he may decide that the kittens are just a threat.

  • you are obviously a cat lover and you should know it this a natural thing for cats to have kittens stop watching her and check back in awhile she'll most likely be ok remember some cats just like humans take long to deliver and have long labor periods good luck

  • if you have not been present when one of your cats has given birth before and she seems unsettled the best thing is to call your vet if you are not happy about moving her one of the kittens may be stuck good luck

  • Re: partially feral kitties on a farm You can still get them fixed! Its much healthier for them. We did it when our poplulation of cats reached 20. Spayed and neutered them all and they still were great mousers and were very happy and much healthier. Some were so feral we had to trap them then keep them in the vets or cages while they healed. don't worry....when the #'s go down, there are enuf idiots out there that will continue to dump kittens and cats that the population will stay up... :(

  • As with the above answer, GET TO THE VET, NOW.

She could need a Cesarean. If she has been pushing for an hour and nothing has happened, Yahoo Answers would have been the last thing on my mind.

Get your cats neutered and become responsible. I hope the cat is going to be ok.

How are you going to cope with potentially 25-30 kittens?

  • don't panic just yet if this is her first litter the poor thing wont really know whats happening to her i panicked when ours went into labour but she was okay she screeched for about two hours then had her kittens as if it was something she did everyday give her a wee bit longer and try to keep her from getting stressed too much by talking to her and stroking her if she seems in stress while you are comforting her then phone your vet for his advice

  • Don't interfere with her. You can gently rub her face, and offer her water at times. She will do the work.

  • Go to the vet now.

Then grow up and become RESPONSIBLE and get your cats fixed. Clearly you have no clue about these kind of things.

  • I guess this is your first time having kittens. Normally they will do just fine giving birth. put her in a space where she can have some jprovacy like in the closet with the door partially shut, in a box with a towel. she will have them for hours normally. abut the things i'm most worried about is why on earth do you have 5 cats pregnant?o you know what will happen to all those kittens? you'll never find good homes for that many cats never! half of them willl end up at the shelter put to sleep because you weren't a responsible pet owner. You should have never let all those cats get pregnant. that's just rediculous. The humane society has a reduced price in getting them spayed or nutured. mabe you should check into that.

  • Just leave her alone she will do this on her own.

You need to get you cats fixed.
