I realize all of our views sound the same, just on opposite sides of the coin.
Atheists think they have the truth. Theists think they have the truth. How do you fight someone's "truth"?
As an atheist, I feel theists are ruining their one chance at life waiting for an afterlife. While theists believe I'm ruining my one chance at an afterlife. It makes me sad... just the same as it makes a theist sad they can't reach me.
Should we all just shake hands and say, "Touche."?
nope
there's some parts of the religion that needs to be abandoned like the bigotry, hatred, lies and intolerance
some theists want immunity for their hatred
atheist's bigotry also needs fighting
What fun would that be?
Debating such matters is fun regardless of how pointless it is.
I don't know you, but have any of you ever had a really good fight with your significant other. Like it was so good but so pointless.
What's the "point" of a food fight? None at all, but still fun.
You illustrate what's wrong with the world. And converts, what's right.

As an atheiest you are the typical ignorant self-promoter. I used to be like you. 'Waiting for an afterlife' is just so out of it. I don't know any Christian who is doing that.
Probably, although 'Truce' would be a better word.
People won't stop trying though.
Now people from both sides will call you a fence sitter or something.
We all choose a path that we hope will lead to our happiness.
You assume that your happiness lies with the things of this life and to work that all out in your life, you must have an independence from God (actually any authority who would tell you how to live your life). So you assume God doesn't exist which then allows you that freedom.
I think that if our Creator exists, then our joy must lie in a relationship with Him. Since He doesn't prove His existence, I reason He must want us to seek Him. So I assume God does exist in order to seek Him. We all have this struggle within us between the love of God and authority of God that eventually either compels us to seek Him or to flee from Him.
you should try reading the arguments properly next time.
To be honest, I don't think we should bother arguing about it; I don't think God would want us to try and force beliefs on each other, so in that way I would say that was kind of a minor sin, it which case I would be ruining my chance of an afterlife, and then we're both ruining a good, happy chance at life if we spend all the time arguing about it aren't we?
So we should just listen to each other and learn about each other and agree to disagree.

there's no harm in having a mature debate and exchanging viewpoints, the problem is when people start to insult each other and angrily dismiss anyone who disagrees with them. This type of behaviour can be observed in the religious and the non-religious.
I think its important to question your own beliefs once in a while, just to reinforce your own religious/non-religious position
It's not pointless. Futile? Going over the same ground again and again and again-result: the same. Theists are all about emotional happy endings. Atheists are all about ice-cold reason. We don't even speak the same language. Hume said mankind has two schools of philosophy the active and the intellectual, and of the two the active or moral would always be the more popular. The intellectual or skeptic is always a lonely path. We need both ( just my opinion). Without both I really believe people can get very weird very fast.
I'd rather slap them and say "FOOL"
Disagreement is always worthwhile, even if it isn't always nice...
There is a point to it all
The theists are trying to save your immortal soul! A noble quest!
We atheists are trying to save the sanity of the planet from superstitious morons! An equally noble quest, I'm sure you'll agree!
We have the advantages of having several centuries of supporting evidence on our side, and having several centuries of so-called religious people behaving in the most reprehensible manner of having supporting evidence on our side.
They have the intellectual equivalent of sticking their fingers in their ears, their tongues out and screaming in a fit of tantrum. A tried and tested technique that most 3 year olds rank as their most effective weapon!
But that would be boring
you dont...to each his own....if they hate relig, then why do they come here?? it seems they have doubts....there should be an aetheist sect for them....I wouldnt go there..
CHOOSE JESUS....THIS LIFE RUNS OUT
Isn't Touche a term used in sword fencing, at the climax of a tournament that has been won. Yes, I'm all for it.
One side relies on evidence, the other on faith -- belief without evidence, or despite evidence to the contrary -- so there's no comparison. Also, there's no such thing as "your truth" and "my truth." Truth -- conformity to fact or actuality -- is the same for everyone. Everything else is opinion.
.
Serious question to all Christian believers?
Would the whole Flesh eating blood drinking living dead raising from their tombs and dancing around?
