Religion is not of God. This is to say that religion is not Godly and has nothing to do with Him.So it is absurd to associate God with any of the religious groups-be it christian, moslem,hindu or whatever.
Do not be deceived to think that because the christians say Jesus was the son of God means that God is a christian.The whole thing is a play and we are all actors with unique roles to play.Jesus, like the others, had a role to play in the drama which was to establish religious groups. I think the most religions started as a way to explain things that the people of the time did not understand, things that have since been explained. so every culture had a different take on it. and now the beliefs are so deep rooted that no society will ever back down.
Because Man is not God(with the obvious exception of Christ), and ALWAYS falls short of the mark God created, which was why Christ was sent, and the Bible was given. So each soul could decide for them self, and God who is the perfect Judge would be impartial and unbiased, and we would be without excuse upon judgment.

I would have to say that as an Atheist I see God as a creation of new civilisation to explain that which is beyond their comprehension.
