why do they demand that women stay home to look after the children because they are more 'nurturing'? Wouldn't it make more sense for fathers to stay at home as they are less likely to harm their children?

Just because women are more likely to be the ones to hurt their kids, doesn't mean that staying home will guarantee that a woman becomes abusive. Abusers will abuse whether they have a full-time career or are home with the kids all day. Nothing will change that.

By and large, most women (like most men) are decent people who aren't going to hurt their kids, which is why their men trust them to be home all day.

This has more to do with a woman growing up emotionally. Most women get stuck at age 5 and remain children themselves (throwing tantrums, me me me me me). What do children do to eachother? Exactly. Nothing to do with feminism.

Nurturing is a learned behavior. Both genders are quite capable of learning this behavior.
As for men/women who is more capable of child abuse. The parent who is totally stressed, lacking coping skills. Either gender.
Personally, I feel any parent is capable of staying home with the child and it should be a family matter, what is best for this particular family.
Personally I have not thrown a tantrum since the age of 2 or 3 years old. And what exactly does this have to do with feminism? "tantrum throwing?"

I don't demand anything of the sort, please don't misrepresent me. Also the the overwhelming majority of women don't want a stay at home husband.

I believe that women are more likely to harm their children because they spend the most time with them, if men spent the most time with children then they would be the most likely to harm them.

Bare in mind that the majority of women see themselves as the primary care giver and that their personal choices have nothing to do with sexism or "patriarchal" conspiracies.

Anyway, it is obvious that the gender that spends the most time with the children is the gender that is most likely to harm. Please do acknowledge this reality, its high time we stopped making excuses and providing cover for female abusers.

Maybe it's the frustration of juggling career and family commitments that makes women violent towards children. If women stayed at home they'd probably be less violent! I'm only speculating!

It is far more likely for women without the father in the relationship, to harm the children.

If the wife hurt the kid during the day, then the father can communicate to the woman that that behaviour is not on and for her to get a handle on her moods.

Anti-feminists are anti anything female. Men are far more likely to commit sex crimes against children (and everybody else). I'm convinced they are weak men blustering and blasting for female attention. Al Bundys one and all.

Could it just be that they spend more time with their mothers so therefore the likelihood of them getting hurt while with them is higher?

And no, my husband is pretty good with my daughter but I would not want him to stay home full time to look after her in my place, she'd have been run over or lost before now!!

They are more likely to harm them due to frustration (which they can only express at home) and the obvious fact that they spend more time at home; so it's inherent.

Also, they are MORE LIKELY to harm them, they aren't per definition a threat to the children.

It seems obvious that anyone who stays home with a child is more likely to harm them than someone who is at work and away from the child ...it's very difficult to physically harm someone if you're not with them. Most home carers are still women which makes this sort of information difficult to assess

Children are extremely frustrating ...it's how they learn what the social rules are. I would have thought that people who are not supported in rearing their children would be more likely to harm them out of sheer exhaustion.
I very much doubt that male or female has a lot to do with it once you take out all the other factors like poverty, upbringing, community support ...et c.

I think fathers make wonderful carers and, if the job situation allows, it's better if both parents can do the raising.
I have friends who've worked a year on and a year off in turns so that each had some input and it seems to have worked really well. Both parents share the bond of being at home with the kids with all the frustrations and happiness that this involves. They also understand the stresses of working which means there is less resentment between them

I don't know that 'they' demand women should stay home. The couples I know tend to come to an agreement between them based on who has the most desire to care for the children, who earns the most, who's more on a career path, who feels the most confident about caring for the kids. You have to be thick skinned when it comes to making decisions for your family and ignore the opinions of outsiders.

Maybe we should ask why work comes before family, why employers are inflexible to the point of destroying families and why men get payed more for the same work. Perhaps we should ask why the government and community can't support families at risk before children are harmed
