I want a dog, but my mom says not responsible enough. What do I do?

  • I want a Chinhula but my mom says I'm not responsible enough. I already have an Australian Terrier, and I love her to death. I really don't understand why she won't let me get one. I even told her that I would buy the dog, and everything that she would need. Any suggestions. Also if I get the dog, I'm scared that my other dog will not like her. How could I get them both to be nice to one another and to share their things. Thanks!

  • Concentrate on the dog you already have and maybe you can prove to your mum you are responsible without annoying her too much!!

  • Maybe your mom just doesn't want another dog in the house.

  • get good grades, do your h.w. on time, respect curfew, walk your dog twice a day, bathe your dog, feed/water your dog, respect your parents and other elders, avoid sibling rivalry and find some good dog breeds that are cute (that your mom will fall in love with) and a dog that fits your lifestyle.

  • You should obey you're mom. If you want one more than anything then you should show her that you are responsible. If she still doesn't let you, you have a dog, be grateful.

  • It is best you stick with one dog.

Spend more time with the dog you have now.

  • If you honestly believe that you are responsible enough, prove it. Do you take care of the dog you currently have? Do you take her out, clean up after her, feed her, water her, walk her 2-3 times a day and play with her when she wants to play? If you can say "Yes I do" to all of these, then great. If you can't, then that's a good place to start (and keep it up!!). If you really want this dog, pick up all the responsibilities of the one you currently have and keep it up. A dog is a commitment. Once you get a new one, you can't forget about the one you have or fall back on taking care of BOTH dogs.

If you don't think you can do that or if you just don't want to, that's too bad. You cannot expect your parents to take care of your responsibilities.

  • umm there's no such thing as a Chinhula... did you mean a Chihuahua?

  • I agree with shadowmelon your mom probably just doesn't want any more dogs, or maybe she's unhappy, is your current dog shedding or leaving a mess or her toys all around?
Or maybe your moms afraid the dogs would fight or your dog now would be jealous and not get enough attention?
    Some suggestions:
    1. Groom the dog you have regularly, australian terriers have long hair like a yorkies I think so that probably needs daily combing? or at least weekly? Wash her as needed also on your own without being told.
    2. I don't know if anyone else walks her, but if youre not become the main dog walker. Wake up 30mins earlier before school. And after school or sports walk her, and after she eats at night.
    3. Become active in animal rights issues. Sign up at aspca website, write some letters to your governor or the president about an issue concerning animals that moves you (maybe the rainforest, or some endagered wildlife thats being hunted?). Or maybe you can find some other issue to take action for.
    4. Do extra chores around the house without being asked. Wash the kitchen floor, for example..

You are lucky to have a dog now but i know how you feel about wanting another dog, I love them.

  • prove you are responsible by taking care of your current dog. Keep it up and do not neglect your other responsibilities. Just because you want something is not a reason for someone to give it to you.

  • Listen to you mom - she knows what's best.

  • You need to prove to your mother that you're responsible; i.e clean your room, do your homework first thing, and definitely OBEY her.

  • I'd just listen to your mom. Parents typically know what they're talking about. I used to be the same- always wanting a pet and I'd PROMISE I'd take care of it and I was 100% sure I would. But kids lose interest after time, they grow up, and the parent always winds up taking care of the pet.

  • respect ur mother's wishes and leave it alone

  • you have enough. do your homework, brat.

  • Best thing to do is leave home, and then the descision will be YOURS!
