  • you are going ten miles per hour - that means in an hour at a constant speed you will travel 10 miles

  • This is actually an interesting question.....

Of course, if you go 10 miles in an hour, the AVERAGE speed over the time span is 10 miles-per-hour. However, during this one hour period, the INSTANTANEOUS speed can change. You could, potentially go 20 mph for the first 30 minutes and completely stop stand-still for the next 30 minutes, and still have the same average speed.

So... to answer your question, the actual speed is unknown. It is only an average of one hour period, or in this case, also an average of speed in 10 miles worth of travel.

Use this - 10 mph x 5280 ft (a mile) equals 52800 ft - the distance traveled in one hour. Divided by 60 equals 880 ft per minute and divided by 60 again equals 14.6 ft per second. That's about the length of a typical full size car. A good marathon runner moves along at about 13 mph.

    All the best.

  • Due to a 1 percent inaccuracy of the speed measuring device you
would probably be doing 9 mph.

  • Speed = Distance traveled divided by time. Therefore 10 miles per hour is an accurate measure of speed.

  • In and around 10mph its an average

  • And how, would you imagine, the actual speed would be any different. 10 miles per hour means you go ten miles every hour. What other way is there to say it?
