  • It is possible. Make sure the cat can climb up on a cat tree to get out of the dog's reach. If you have a screen door or a glass door, have the cat on one side and the dog on the other. Let them get used to seeing each other for a while. When they can ignore each other, put the dog on a leash and bring the dog in. Give the dog treats when it ignores the cat and looks at you. Teaching the leave it command will help also, you can teach the dog to 'leave it' it being the cat. You can have some one else sit close to the cat and give the cat some tuna or some other treat that she totally loves. She will get the idea that the dog means good treats, and the dog will learn that ignoring the cat means good treats. They can eventually learn to get along and will probably even get to be good friends and play together. Just be patient with them and try not to scold either the dog or the cat. Try not to leave them alone together until you are sure that they will not fight. Since the Rottweiler is not a breed that is prone to hunting small prey, it shouldn't be too difficult to teach the dog to leave the cat alone. Also, a couple of well placed claw swipes if the dog gets a bit too curious isn't going to hurt and will help to teach the dog respect for the cat. Just make sure the cat can always get away up high when the dog is around.
