now i found they are both boys would it be ok if i got 2 girls to go with them. i have a large cage
id say it would be ok.. if you dont give them a nesting box.. i used to breed budgies and they would only get friendly with one another if there was a nest..
but id stick with the 2 boys and just hope that they dont fight first!!
Did you buy two because they were going cheap!!
Why not keep it the way it is? If the boys are getting along why change a good thing unless like everyone said do it if you want the responsibilities of educating yourself on breeding buggies. Other wise. I would leave a good thing alone. Its fine to have the boys,
by large cage how large do you mean...
most people have no idea that these little birds need at least a 24" x 24" cage PER bird!
on top of that, breeding is best left to BREEDERS, having 2 breeding pairs in the same cage can not only open the birds up to agression and disese, but its also very hard to tell which pair is which. so if your planning on breeding birds, please find a good breeder as a mentor and work under them for at least 1 yr first.
most birds wont breed unless a nest box is provided, so if the cage is truly large enough (for 4 birds you would need at least a 36" x 18" x 36" flight cage) it could work out well...or your 2 males could kill eachother squabbling over the new females, or kill the new birds defending their terriroty.
personally i wouldnt suggest it, your 2 boys will be very happy together as companions, they dont need girls to be happy...and its obvious your not ready to attempt to breed yet.
If you want them to multiply like crazy, escape, and maybe destroy your house go ahead. (:
Yes you can, if they all get along well you'll have a nice little flock!! But be prepared with another to cage in case you have to seperate them. They don't always mate just b/c there's boys and girls in a cage. They need the right conditions usually to actually have fertile eggs. There are birds who even under the right conditions never breed.
good luck =)
depends on if yuo want babies
i had something like this happen but i did not wnt babies but i got them
and they were a hassle so if u decide babies then have fun lol
it's not that easy, is your cage big enough for 2 breeding couples and their off spring?. It's the females that fight when it comes to budgies. The males may both fancy the same female or the females need at least 4 breeding boxes to choose from all at the same level or they'll fight over this too. it best to have each couple in it's own cage in different rooms.
If the cage is big enough it could be ok.
The only time they mate is if you had a cove or a cave in the care. Just be sure there isn't one or they'll breed. Other than that, budgies will remain friends.
perfectly fine if you want them to have babies? think about it.
Sure.but if u buy 1 female, the boys will fight,I saw it on utube...JUST AN OPINION
I agree, they will mate like CRAZY!
Yes. Although you might one to sell or take back the second male if they both start to fight.
The Cocks will fight when Hen's are in evedence, and that's a fact. Go back to where you bought them and tell them the story, they may give you a swap of a hen for one of the cocks. As far as I am aware the Hens are worth less because you can service a lot of hens with one **** with reguard to breeding. It's worth a try. But one **** per cage it dose not matter how many hens.
PS. You can have a dozen cocks per cage and peace but just one hen will cause consternation. The Girls where would we be without them lol
What type of bird is this? ?
Why are my chickens eating their eggs?
