When I smell meat it seriously makes me want to vomit. Seeing meat being eaten or even worse seeing a turkey carcass being chewed on and cut up is terrifying for me. I do not eat fake meat like tofurkey because it tastes and smells like MEAT. I don⠙t eat meat for a reason. I don⠙t like it. Thanksgiving is coming up and it⠙s nice to spend it with the family and friends but I am the only vegetarian in my family and I was thinking about me and some vegetarian friends getting together and having our own veggie thanksgiving. What is your opinion? Is it extremely rude to say that I am not going to make it this year because seeing a beheaded featherless bird being cooked and tortured is revolting to me? I will just loose my appetite. August Monthly Mouthful | Chew On That:: Aug 6, 2008 Then, I called my cousin’s husband and told him we’d be coming up and have Thanksgiving at their house. well u can ask ur family about vegitarian food and to keep th meats away from u or eat with friends?
Sure it's alright to get together with your vegan friends. But you don't need to be rude and opinionated about getting out of it. Find a polite excuse. Enjoy!
Practice. Im dead serious. When your by yourself buy a little bit of meat and ut it around you. Just get used to the sight and smell. That way when thanksgiveing comes around you can just have a salad or something while they eat what they want. 2006 November « Squirrel’s Vegan Kitchen:: I look forward to blog hopping and seeing what you are up to this weekend. as said, there is no rule that u have to eat. the celebration is about the people in our lives. pop in for an hour or two on thanksgiving day, well before dinner, greet all the people and leave. the turkey will be cooking and all that but i am sure u can manage around the smell knowing u won't be eating. then u can meet up with ur friends and have the best of both worlds. if the relatives show a day or so early, u can always go visit t'giving eve when nothing major is cooking and enjoy the company better then. but do at least meet the guests and be polite. if your folks know u r a vegetarian, they should understand. but people: aunts, uncles and g'parents may not understand why u don't want to see them; which is not the case but they may feel it is so. avoid hurt feelings, pop in say hi, do the cheek kissy thing and then make your excuses and leave. ESPN: The Morning Buzz: Wednesday, Nov. 22 - SportsNation:: John (Portland, ME): Why isn't there a Thanksgiving turkey eating competition on .. maybe if you first explained to your family first, it won't be so bad. they should understand and respect your preferences. OR maybe you can ask that you say hi and have "family time" BEFORE they eat and once they have turkey dinner, you go have yours with your friends. just make sure the turkey is somewhere like in a stove to where you can't see it that way you can enjoy your family's company while they enjoy yours.
It is more about the people you love than food,
food will always be here the people around us will not.
So you decide an have fun its thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is not about the food. It's about spending time with your family.
If anything, consider eating your fill before you show up, so you won't even need to eat when you're at the table
Or eat early enough, and show up early to spend time with your family before the dinner, and you can split when dinner starts.
That way they'll know you made an effort to be there (which is the POINT)
As much as the food is nice and all, don't forget the real reason to be thankful
