My friend is getting drunk too much now, and I'm starting to worry about her. She says she can take care of herself, but she's already slowly losing control. It bothers me, because I care about her and I don't want to tell her what she should and should not do, (I realize I have no right) but I care about her so much and I don't want her to hurt herself or ruin her life! Many years ago I was starting to have the same problem .. partying, drinking .. having fun. It all caught up with me. I got pregnant and the boyfriend took off .. my parents ended up raising my son. He is now a wonderful young man (currently in Iraq) and I have an almost 8-month old grandson as well. I have lived with the guilt his whole life because he never met his real father and I don't even have a picture to show my son. Believe me, if it doesn't stop now, she will have to live with the consequences the rest of her life. It is wonderful that you are such a great friend, but sadly, she may have to hit rock bottom before she sees what is happening to her. SHE has to change, you can't do it for her. What you can do is pray for her now, try to arrange get-together where there is no drinking involved -- suc as shopping, movies, etc. And, when and if she does fall apart, be there to help her through the rough times.
