I'm going to be spending a year in Australia when I am 18 (in 8 months). I will need a car when I am over there. I will have only had my license for around 6 month when I am there. Will I be aloud to drive?
Probably not as you will be on L plates they are very strict down under
Insurance like the UK will be a nightmare (VERY VERY high as you will be under 25)

Should not be a problem but the best thing to do to verify it would be to email the Australian Embassy in london to find out exactly what the rules are.
Yes you can drive on a British licence, But with only 6 months driving experience, you won't be allowed to hire a car. AS for buying a car. the engine size you are allowed to drive, depends on your driving experience, and over there, it is no alcohol at all when driving. They have roadside portable clinics where they can blood test you straight away, and the police are very hot on parking regulations ans speeding. When you park on the road, you have to park with the direction of the traffic. You are not allowed to cross the road to drive in the right direction.
