Hi everyone~ The Hyundai Genesis is a popular topic lately...Um, Hyundai states that the all new Genesis is as big as a BMW 7-series, with the peformance of a BMW 5-series, and priced like BMW 3-series...Personally, I think it's a lot of b.s, because an ultimate luxury sedan from Hyundai? It's basically a poor-man's Rolls Royce. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?
Good for them.
They have moved up in this world.
I would not spend $35K on a single vehicle nor would I buy the mentioned XG300/Azera or the Kia Amanti (the clone) because it has a Mitsubishi engine in it that is a PITA to work on, but Hyundai would just have to shed its econobox image and not rebadged one for Kia a well or people will still get confused over the line between luxury and econoboxes in the HyundaiKia lineup.
You can't say that this is a lot of BS since the Hyundai might indeed have the same wheelbase as the Beemer it compares itself to...you just need to look them both up. If you are not paying the euro premium, what's the problem? Why should I pay more for a car because it's a German car? It's gonna be a huge POS when the warranty runs out! 2007 Lexus LS 460 - Sedans Discussions at Automotive.com:: Sedans - 2007 Lexus LS 460 discussion at the Automotive.com forums. the GS 450 hybrid if you want that. (like Nissan's new super car GT, doesn't have Nissan logo on it but there is different logo) of course in Korea and China, Hyundai is more popular than rest of the world and but if they bring that logo to U.S., people won't know if that is from Hyundai or not. So, Genesis does not have a Hyundai logo because we don't have that special logo. This is to the person who asked this question. Hyundai may not be on par with BMW's handling, but it does outperforms in 180 degrees cornering and has a better engine than 5 series. Even DUB picked Genesis to customize it because they said that they know what cars are good lookin' if they saw it. If you want to find out if it's a really a good car or not, why not test drive? or are you not old enough to drive yet? This is to alfredb1979, Hyundai made their own engines since Hyundai cope.
I personally think that the new 2009 Hyundai Genesis, is sharp for a Hyundai. It is a far cry from back in the day when it was just a cheap car to get around in. I even remember back in 1992 when my grandmother had brought her second Cadillac and it was only 5 days old, but she wanted extra things put on to it. Now the dealer she had brought her car from was a Cadillac, Lincoln Hyundai Dealer. When they came to pick up her Caddy they lent her a Hyundai. BOY WAS SHE HOT!(smile) she did`nt even make it to church that same week , because she declared that she did not know how to drive that car, she was used to a luxury vehicle.(ha! ha!) but i said all of that to say that Hyundai with there new models have stepped there game up. My first two cars were Hyundai and they are good on gas etc. Hopefully this new Genesis is a reliable one. I would not compare it to a BMW though
I have notice in the pass that Hyundai has tried to put out some so called hi-end models but it has not really worked for them, like a couple of years a go they came out with the XG300 which no one remembers and the Azera? which is still currently in the line. i have seen them and they are nice looking also, but it does make me want to run out and go buy one. But the 2009 Genesis i would consider buying but not brand new, I still could not see myself buying a Hyundai over $35,000 no matter how good it is. Hyundai and Rolls Royce you can not even put them into the same sentence. Now here is my only question to Hyundai, if the Genesis is that great, how come they did not put a Hyundai Symbol on the hood of the car? It is no were to be found. every luxruy car has one Cadillac, Lincoln, Volvo, Mercedez, Jaguar, Infiniti, Lexus, Acura, Saab, Audi, BMW, Buick etc
Yes, it is a great car.
The Korean exhange rate is different.
An American dollar is worth a lot in Korea, so Korean cars are much cheaper.
To the Koreans, it is an expensive car.
Hyundai's and Kia's are great. I have driven over 200 cars including just about every Kia and Hyundai.
They were bad in the 90's, but now they are great cars.
Smooth, quiet rides, reliable, long warranties.
Edmunds.com did a video test of the Genesis against the Lexus GS and the Genesis won the comparison test.
It is a great car. I only have driven a fully loaded V8, but I feel as if the 375 HP is a bit of a lie. I know it is heavy and large, but with that, I feel as if 310 HP is really what it is.
In terms of quality, this thing is good. It is built with the quality you would find in Lincoln, but not high enough of what you would find in a BMW and not nearly near Audi in any way.
When talking about comfort, this almost compares to the Buick Enclave which is the one of the most comfortable and reasonably priced cars I've ever been in.
Then you are left with the question, will it sell? No.
These days, people are reluctant with getting an Infiniti Badge, over a BMW or Mercedes. Never, ever will anybody driving a Lexus, BMW or Mercedes even think of converting to a Hyundai.
Hyundai was smart and put as few badges possible on this car, but it still is and will always will be a Hyundai and we cannot ever change that unless they make it a Kia (God Forbid).
Good Luck
I think a Hyundai is a poor mans anything.
People won't buy a BMW because it's the most efficient, the cheapest, or the biggest, they'll buy it because it's a BMW. People won't buy the Genesis because they think it's less of a luxury car, they won't buy it because it's a Hyundai. Volkswagen had the same problem with selling the Phaeton in the U.S.
