  • Great info, but note this caveat in the fine print:

"Marriott Cheques may be used for all publicly listed and available room rates and packages, but cannot be used for convention, travel industry, tour, advance purchase, catering, or group room rates."

So if you're going to a convention, it appears you're out of luck.

  • ...As a addendum to my last post...Once you get to www.giftcertificates.com/wf, (http://www.giftcertificates.com/wf,) to receive the eMail from giftcertificates.com, you have to enter this code (just copy and paste this code because the "O" is not a zero...it will work better if you copy and paste it)...Here is the code: NUEJO030DK

When you place this code in the space, you will receive an eMail from an auto-responsder from Wells Fargo Bank and GiftCertificates.com. The eMail will have the code you can use to save $50 off of a $250 purchase of gift certificates from Gift Certificates.com. You will place this "promotional code" into the blank when you are checking out. Also, you will instantly receive the $50 credit or the smaller credit if you are purchasing lesser amounts (there are complete details on the site).

  • My friends...

I have already used over $5,000 worth of Marriott certificates that I have purchased through VolumeBuy.com. First of all, they are treated like cash at any Marriott property. You receive 100% of the normal Marriott Rewards and Elite Bonuses that you would receive if you paid for your room with a credit card or cash.

The only thing that I would consider any kind of a drawback (and it is extremely minor) is that you cannot receive cash back for any change due. Therefore, purchase your Marriott certificates in the lower dollar denominations and just pay up to just short of the balance due at the end of your stay. Place the rest of the balance on your credit card or pay cash and then you have a great deal. Also, if you purchase your certs at VolumeBuy.com, you will save 15%. Unfortunately, I think that you can only receive $50 certs for the 15% discount but that is generally a low enough denomination to do what I described.

Anyhow, this thing does work and it has saved my company a tremendous deal of money. Also, if you want to save 20% on a one-time deal, go to www.giftcertificates.com/wf (http://www.giftcertificates.com/wf) and get your special code eMailed to you. You can purchase $250 in Marriott certificates for $200...this is a one-time deal and it really works!!! I am testing this out through www.greenpoints.com (http://www.greenpoints.com) to see if I receive my 4,000 GreenPoints for doing this...I will report later if I received the GreenPoints for this transaction.

Take care all and have a wonderful 4th of July...Also, don't forget to use your affinity credit cards to purchase your Marriott gift certificates...More points=more $$$$$!!!

  • Thanks for the info! But it works out great for business trips though. Pay the bill using the certificates and get reimbursed for the full amount. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

  • I checked with Marriott and Guest Services knows of no restriction on cheques. They should be able to be used like cash. I'm hoping to get that same info from Marriott in an e-mail so I'll have something in writing at check-out.

Also note that, oddly, discounts vary with denominations. The $100 cheque costs $90 (10% off) while the $50 cheque only costs $42.50 (15% discount).

  • FamilyFlyer- I'd just stop down at the front desk sometime during your stay -after check-in and before check-out, and say that you want to make a payment toward your room account. Then present the gift certificates and make sure you get a printout of your room statement showing they've posted the certificates as credits. No one is going to read the small print on the back and compare your rate to the small print.

  • When do these have to be used by?
