Don't leave lights on when no one is in the room. If you are going to be out of the room for mTurn off the TV when no one is watching it. The same goes for computers, radios and stereos - if no one using it, turn it off. Turn off all the appliances at the surge protector/control strip - that four- or six-plug extension chord that you plug all your computer things into. Some devices, like modems or other networking boxes are drawing small amounts of power all the time. Check with your folks first, but the best thing to do is turn them ALL off at the surge protector.
ore than five minutes, turn off the light.Wasting water wastes electricity. Why? Because the biggest use of electricity in most cities is supplying water and cleaning it up after it's been used!
Here are my Top Dozen ways to save energy. Please give them a go. Thanks!
At home:
1) cut your heating bills by fitting loads of INSULATION. Windows, doors, walls, ceilings - even floors. Preventing heat loss is the most significant way to cut your energy bills. Save Energy Through Your Appliances - Energy Saving Secrets (UK):: These items make our lives easier but most of us don't realise how much damage our bad energy habits are having on the environment – or how we can save http://www.energysavingsecrets.co.uk/HowToSaveEnergyThroughYourAppliances.htmlHOME |
2) save hot water by taking NAVY SHOWERS. You can get clean and fresh with less than 2 minutes of running water. Wet your hair first. Turn the water off while you apply the shampoo and lather up. Turn the water on to rinse out and then turn it off again while you soap your face and neck. Water on for a quick rinse then off again while you soap your body. Take as long as you like while the water's not running! Finally, rinse off and turn off. Feel great that you've got clean without wasting hot water.
3) Replace old refrigerators and freezers with the MOST energy efficient A++ models. I did this in February 2008 and reduced the energy usage of my fridge by 90%. I am heading for an annual saving of 700kWh for this one change.
4) Avoid using the tumble dryer. Hang your clothes out to dry on a line in your garden or on a clothes horse indoors.
5) Then remember what everyone else is telling us about switching things off. Never leave computers / TV / hifi on standby. Find all the DC power supplies (little black boxes, such as phone chargers) that are plugged into the mains in your house and ensure that you unplug them, or switch the socket off, when they are not in use. These changes will probably cut your energy usage by around 30%!
Away from home:
6) Walk, cycle or take the bus / tram / train. Using the car for local journeys consumes massive quantities of fossil fuel energy.
7) Choose holidays closer to home and travel by land or sea. Air transport is very wasteful of energy.
8) Buy food and drinks that come from your home country. Food miles mean energy wasted on transportation - especially for fresh products flown to you from around the globe.
9) Encourage others in your workplace, community group, school or church to talk about energy usage and think about ways to reduce it. Then push them to ACT!
Around the world:
10) Support conservation and renewable energy projects.
11) Oppose fossil fuel expansion and deforestation.

turn lights off when not needed. Turn your computer of when you stop using it. Use fluorescent light bulbs, and walk/bike when you can.
I think the first step is awareness. How much energy do you use and how are you using it. Now look for ways to reduce waste and make use more efficient.
Switch your computer off, when you leave your home. Shut the lights when you leave your home. Buy lights that do not consume much energy. You can also save the energy by making environmental cars, such as electric cars cheaper, the cars that pollute, make them expensive. There are many ways to save energy, I surely believe, it a matter of will and different ideas. I have come up with mine, but that does not mine it's the only one. There are lots of good ideas from different places and different people too.
