Hi.
I just bought a house and I am wondering what to expect for my heat bills I live in central NJ where the coldest temperature during the winter is around 20 degrees at night. I live in a 2 story, 1,400 sq ft house and plan to keep the temperature at around 60 degrees. (I spend a lot of time away from home) I do not have an attic where hot air can escape through and my windows are pretty new. Would it be safe to assume $200 per month during the winter would cover it?
Thanks!
Let's see:
60 degrees - 20 degrees = 40 degrees difference times 1,400 square feet divided by 2 stories times the conversion factor of 1.3 stories per BTU minus the central NJ therm rate squared plus 4 months times 30 days plus 2 extra days factored by 4 for the almanac conversion plus a fudge factor of 1.75 less 3 degrees per night.
