i think the main reason jimmie is doing as good as he`s doing is because he has the smartest crew chief in the sport.and if chad leaves him he is gonna suck
The crew chief makes all the difference. Look at Jeff Gordon when Ray Evernham left. He had a few off years in there. It is a stretch to say that he is going to suck, but he may have more struggles here and there.
Jiimie is a good driver. Chad is a good crew chief. I just don't get why Chad feels the need to cheat. That's why I do not repsect the dynamic duo.
It doesn't matter. If Chad takes Jimmie to three consecutive championships. Both those guys would become icons in the sport.
I think people naturally want to jump to that conclusion. But, just take this last race for example. Chad wasn't the one in the car driving hard into the corners to make the pass, Chad wasn't the one in the car taking care of his breaks so the bead in the tire wouldn't melt, or so that the breaks didn't get soft, Chad wasn't the one in the car trying to take care of his fenders on a short, crowded race track. It's a team effort. Chad may be the best crew chief in the business,(or maybe not) but he would not get the attention he does if he had a mediocre driver in the car. NASCAR IS A TEAM SPORT.Who can say that Jimmie would not do as well without Chad Knaus?He has never had another Crew chief in the Cup series,so who knows.This scenario applies to ALL drivers and crew chiefs:If you were to take Jimmie Johnson or any other driver and put them with a mediocre to less than knowledgeable crew chief and/or a bad crew,they probably would not do as well.Having said that,if you were to take Chad Knaus and/or a great crew and give them a sorry driver,they probably would not do as well either.

If you were to take Peyton Manning and/or Tony Dungy away from the Colts or Tom Brady and/or Bill Belichek away from the Patriots and give them a mediocre team,would they have been as successful as they have been?Too many scenarios;it is what it is and Jimmie and Chad are together and are the best in the series right now.
Jimmie Johnson without Chad Knaus is like Jeff Gordon without Ray Evernham. Just another mediocre driver. People have their opinions but the fact is that Knaus is THE backbone of that team. He is the hardest working crew chief in the series.
while I am sure he would do well with Chad or anyone, I have seen this situation this season since Robbie Reiser left Kenseth and it has not been really good, not for lack of trying but the fact that it takes time to build a good team relationship, get to know how the other works so, it would take time for anyone trying to replace Knaus.

Jimmie has a lot of talent so I think he would be alright without Chad. It would take a little time to get back where he was. If they put Steve Latarte has his crew chief he would be screwed !
They are a team and I think the team would suffer if one of them left. If he wins his 3rd title in a row, that is NOT going to happen. Knaus will be getting a BIG RAISE!!
Not sure. Chad can be smart, but he has also hurt the team at times by cheating. However, I do think Jimmie would be fine without him when I think about it, depending on who replaced Chad, because Chad was suspended when Jimmie won the Daytona 500. However, I don't see Chad leaving so.
