i'm a noob at brass instrument...
i can make buzzing sounds but the pitch of the sound is really low (comparing to actual trumpet players). i've been practicing a lot but practicing without a clue doesn't seem to help...
i think maybe it's because my lips are too loose? but if i buzz hard, the lips automatically opens wider... What I say to beginners is to call me a "Wimp" and when the p in that word is sounded, keep up the buzz. If you do this, you will notice that the corners of your lips become firm and the center portion of the lips are buzzing. Your lips should be moist so the buzzing will be easier. Placing your tongue higher in your mouth also can help raise the pitch. Also, a blast of air in the brass instrument can temporarily give you a high pitch which means that you are not using constant and consistent air pressure.
