I guess I don't know what happens once you allow offshore drilling. Here's what I imagine happens: A private company--exxon, BP, or something-- drills for oil off the coast of california. When they find it, they don't sell it directly to gas stations in california, they sell it to the highest bidder on the world market. I understand that the more supply that's pumped into the world market, the lower the average world-wide price, ...but how does this benifit America specifically?...how does it benifit america, anymore than it would if oil companies drilled for more oil in canada, or norway?
The government would have to pass a law that all oil produced in the US stays here. Crunchy Chicken: Stop drilling the American public:: Clearly, we cant drill our way to energy independence. Senate Passes Budget That Would Allow Oil Drilling in Arctic Refuge:: record profits to the tune of billions of dollars, how does repeat the same mistakes of the past, nor can we drill our way to energy independence. http://www.sierraclub.org/pressroom/releases/pr2005-11-03a.aspHOME | Political Radar: The Long & Short of Obamas Energy Plan:: off-shore drilling as long as it includes a larger plan toward energy independence. Right now, we have no choice but to buy oil from countries that are potentially harmful and not necessary friendly to our country. If we have an ability to produce oil, then we have an option to buy our own. This is at ANY PRICE.
What about drilling at other countries that are friendly to us? Again, we will be at the mercy of another country. Besides, drilling does have certain environmental impact. Why would we want to advocate risking another country for our sole benefit?
Right now, we have no ability to say, if you don't play nice with us, we aren't going to buy your product. If we do, we hurt us more than we hurt them.
Why was the Bin Laden family allowed to fly out of the USA in the hours following the 9/11 attacks?
