One question was "How does the animal protect itself?" I know with its teeth , I just want something more for him to turn in.
I'm confused. What does this has to do with pit bulls? Pits are dogs, they aren't separate species.
Pits protect themselves with their teeth and by their posture...just like any other dog.
yea everyone answered correctly. i'm just posting bc i wanted bmthe to know that I just thumbs downed you by accident :( meant to hit thumbs up. sorry.
Why would a first grader be doing a project on this?!?! Perhaps his project should have been about the bad rap these dogs take because of stupid, irresponsible owners.. that would hav e been a better stand to take.. or are you just trying to add to the hype the media is trying to force down everybody's throat concerning this breed? Teach your child to take a stand.. it's irresponsible owners that gave these animals a bad rap.. they protect themselves just as any other breed would, including people.. it has an owner?
or, his nails to scratch, and its paws to swat.
Well a dog will attack by biting as you know, however, they dont bite without warning.
Usually before a dog attacks they will give warnings, they're not gonna attack without letting someone know that they're considering it.
So, basically, if a dog is making eye contact and growling, showing it's teeth by lifting its lip, it's basically saying "back off right now otherwise i WILL attack".. I reckon that can be a way of protecting itself. Rather than attacking, a warning may be good enough protection.
pits have massive jaws and a bullheaded temper, and no they can not lock their jaws, if they could they would be a new species. but the power of the jaw can cause them to bite and hold on better than others and because they are stubborn they will hold on tight preventing another dog or the person from using the part they are biting to hurt them. but personally as a pit owner, he would run away cause he is a major sissy as are most that i have met that weren't taught by the owner to fight, and in those cases....the owner should be put to sleep not the dog. McNeely v. United States:: When complete, this site will contain a full set of legal material relating to animals Act does not give fair warning because it too broadly criminalizes pit bull ownership, http://www.animallaw.info/cases/causdc874a2d371.htmHOME |
like any other dog the APBT defends itself not only by biting but also by barking, growling or showing dominant body language to warn of potential attackers and showing submissive body language and behavior to avoid attack by a more dominate dog. Actually biting is generally a last resort when all other methods have failed
Edit: No problem Full Pawtential it happens to all of us occasionally.
Body language (big one), tone of the bark, fight or flight...
Its pitbull, not pittbul(only 1 t.)
just letting you know this so that your son has a correct spelling on the name for his project =]
And i dont think a pitbull would be a good example for your son to protect it self as a hw assignment. But anywho, a pitbull can protect it self from its owners,(they bond well with them..) and its teeth, atheletic abilities. to run fast and jump ect.
i hope your son gets a 100 xD

Agree in general with all of the above except that dogs use their paws also, to restrain opponents.
The American Pit Bull Terrier is a very muscular, stocky, yet agile dog which is extremely strong for his size. Yes pits have a powerful jaw, but so do many dogs. But pits and related breeds have an amplified grab-bite sequence of the prey drive. They are descendants of dogs who were used to bait bulls; the dogs were bred to hold on in spite of pain or injury, for example if the larger animal kicked or thrashed. Another way to say it is they have a high tolerance for pain.
That is a pretty deep assignment for a 5 year old. I could understand doing one on dogs, but on "pitt bulls" (you probably mean American Pit Bull Terrier) is a little weird.
They protect themselves (and their families) the same way as every breed of dog, as well as most species of mammals, with their teeth and body language.
tiny_lil...Pit bulls do NOT have a "bull headed temper". Have you ever met a pit bull?
Any dog also can protect himself by fleeing from a situation where they're threatened. They also can have a very alert, intent posture which can be picked up by other dogs so as to appear intimidating, or at least unafraid. (A fearful or submissive dog would have his ears lain flat to his head, with his tail low or between his legs).
