i have never voted & this year i don't want to make a mistake, i don't like McCain or obama, & i don't want my 1 vot eto count, i kinda was for hilary & am shocked she backed out

not really, it's all the electoral college, and they actually make the decision, which is supposed to be based on what the voters put on the ballots, but historically hasn't always been. i suggeste you take a look at america the book, steven colbert breaks it down pretty well... if your vote does count it counts for like .000000007% if you want it to really count vote for american idol.

jesse, i'd rather go to either of those countries... i just need the funds... which isn't going to happen if mccain gets elected. of course if obama gets elected i'd rather stick around, he's going to clean up the politics if his policies pass.
Yes - it makes me feel good to vote for someone like McCain/Palin because I'm saving babies' lives and helping people keep more of their own hard-earned money through lower taxes.

i strongly agree with Yahooligan i am from Utah but Never Vote Since i dont care about who the presidents but i was sure to voted for Hilary if she Kept Running but now Not Gonna Vote but were not gonna give Our Vote From Hilary to Obama since Dont like Obama Or McCain its same Reason on yahooligan
yes it does good, but it isnt used properly in my opinion. take the bail out bill that passed, most people called their senators and congressmen and asked them to not pass the bill, it past any ways. and these same senators and congressman will still probably be re elected, even tho they disregarded the pleas of their constituency, democracy only works if the elected officials represent those who elect them.. every one should vote for non encumbants, be brave, cross party lines.
Voting is a right that we have in this country and every vote counts in some way but even more than that it is a duty for every citizen that is eligible to vote there are people that have suffered and died to protect that right among other rights afforded us in our Constitutingn and the Bill Of Rights you dishonor those if you do not exercise that right
well, to answer your question quickly... no. America relies on the electoral college system to determine the president. A quick summary of this is basically a group of selected representatives(picked by the government) from each state who cast their vote for the president. In CA the representatives vote in unison and all cast their votes typically for the democratic candidate, but in other states the electoral college votes are split. Al Gore in 2000 won the popular vote by the people, but lost in electoral college votes, therefore lost the election
