If a person becomes infected they have enough HIV in their body to infect another person with in 6 hours of being infected. Yet the body will not create enough antibodies to show up on a test for several days.
The window period for HIV is 3 months, HIV shows up 90% of the time after 30 days, 94-96% after 60 days and 99.6% after 90 days, a few people take longer. BUT if a person does not test for HIV they can go 10-12 years before there are any signs.
Once someone is infected, they can transmit the virus to others for the rest of their lives. The virus can be transmitted even if the infected person has no symptoms (It can take years for symptoms to show up.), and even if they do not yet test positive (More than 98% of people who have HIV would test positive within 3 months, in rare cases it can take up to 6 months for someone to test positive.)
As long as there is touching.... mainly sexually and/or orally
