my border collies on medication for it sunday she had a series of fits 2 in the morning one at night the worst being the one at night. i belive it affecte her hearing and sight which seems to be getting better again.. the thing is now she comes over and if you look closely you can see her face start to spasm but not like a full blown fit and then she loses her balance.. the vet is full booked until tmrw but theyve said to increase the dose from 1 1/2 tablets twice a day to 2 tablets twice.. i just wondered how normal this is for a dog with epilepsy as shes the first one i have had with it or known have it.. shes normally totally well behaved obedient and active goes on atleast 3 walks each day and agility once a week.. i have also noticed that it seems to happen more if she misses the last walk of the day before bed although the vet says its just a coincidence it seems to be a common trend has anyone any experience on this. I also read that it can be caused by coming into season which she is due to do the vet wouldnt spey her until her second season. If the fits are getting worse have they tested for a brain tumour, or under/over active thyroid gland, my gsd had the fit (that ultimately killed her) after she missed her walk, and ones before after similar events, our vet also said that it was a coincidence but were never sure.

Would try and see your vet soon as possible to review the medication and further steps. She sounds like a young dog, this condition if under correct medication can be controlled. good luck
There are many reasons for epilepsy, but please take comfort in that as soon as your vet finds the right dose for the medication, the convulsions should stay under control.
If there is no physical reason for the epilepsy (tumor) then the medication will help her live a long and happy life.
They do loose pretty much all function when they have a convulsion, even the small ones, and they are very confused when they come round again; but they do recover well within a relatively short time.
Will my dogs vet eventually think im crazy?
How cani get my 4week old puppy to sleep through the night?
