I'm looking to purchase an inexpensive Canon wide angle lens. I read a fairly positive article on the Canon EF 20-35mm lens with zoom. I would be ever so grateful for any feedback on this lens, or advice on any other. As mentioned, the camera that you have, might make a difference.
On a film camera (or full frame digital like the 5D or 1Ds)...anything shorter than about 24mm would be considered pretty wide. The Canon 10-22mm is the best lens in this range, but it's more expensive than the other options. Sigma, Tamron & Tokina all make ultra wide angle lenses.
inexpensive and wide angle to me always sounds like a considerable compromise.
but I might be mistaken.
keep in mind that 20 mm on a crop sensor is not really very wide.
Sigma 10-22...my uncle has it and loves it.
Exactly how wide are you looking at? More than the 17-55 stock? If so its the EF-S 10-22. Not inexpensive though. Converts to 16-35 on the crop sensor as opposed to the 26-56 you were inquiring about.
Tokina and Sigma do nice UWA lenses cheaper than the Canon 10-22.
