All you can do is file for divorce. You'll need to read up on your state laws and determine the reason for divorce, each state has different reasons to file.
If you do not know where the spouse is then you can place a Notice of Publication in your local newspaper (contact your court house and they'll tell you what papers they'll accept). File this notice and let it run for 30 days. Then get proof of this ad, and return it to the courthouse. This is considered "serving the absent spouse".

I'm not sure about the 12 years but I was able to get an annulment after about a year and a couple of months. My lawyer was able to state in the annulment that there was fraud in the marriage. So there are certain circumstances, you should definitely consult a lawyer. I though there was no chance because I was in the marriage for more than 6 months but it turned out that I was so you never know.

You can't get an annulment unless a)mental or physical cruelty or b)have not seen the person for more than one year. Go ask a lawyer, if she hasn't seen him for that long an annulment may be possible.

She'll have to file for divorce. The marriage has been on the record legally for too long to qualify for annulment. I hope by "wife" you mean common law. Your "wife" is a bigamist if the two of you have obtained a marriage license and been legally married before she's legally divorced from her first husband. If this is the case, your marriage is not legal/valid.
