I haven't been to these forums in a long time, and i got beaten in post counts :( by a guy who had hundreds less than me when i left.
I read a while back about how google was storing a database of what you search for on their site and saving it along with an id in your cookie. Somewhere in it it mentioned that you should clear your cookies before searching if you are logged into googles serivices so they can't link the searches you make with a person. Somewhere in its thousands of servers google has a record of what everyone at any time searched for.
A year ago when gmail was new, i had some invites and barely gave them out even to my friends. Now i have 50 and no one wants them. I don't see why they won't just release it to the public.
its been a long time azlatin2000. Thanks for the gmail/google info. I think many record info whether it be searches or info. AS for my gmail, i only use it for spam and general junk. I have to many emails as it is and since I'm tired of yahoo (had it since the beginning of time) ...i got gmail to replace all others for forums etc.
Interesting little tidbit here - when I visit Froogle, I see my gmail address in the top right corner. Is Google accessing a Gmail cookie and tracking what I am Froogling???

I'm still trying to find things to do with my gmail account, i've used my virgin one for everything for ages though, so it's starting to get a bit overused in the weekend, well in my opinion thats over 10 emails in one day but i suspose for some people thats normal, i'm glad thats not me, lol.
If anyone would like to send me a free invite to Gmail, that would be great. I have heard that it is a very good e-mail program. Thanks. Please e-mail the invitation to kjs1977@your-mail.com
Same here, I even tried two for one special on invites, ---I can't give them away, everyone that wanted one, has it.

There are using the same cookies throughout their services site, however I don't think its for doing much more but using it for a shopping list feature to remember what you are looking for if you want to look it up again. I don't, however, think that it should be an automatic option and should be more of a opt in setting. But these days, everyone is tracking something or someone.
if you sign out, it disappears.
