eFax.com announced
this week that it has launched its unified messaging
services in the UK.
The move is the first step in a
planned global expansion, says the company.
First launched in the U.S. in February this year,
eFax has signed 1.4 million users, a substantial
base for an international launch.
"The Internet is rapidly spreading throughout Europe
and the UK is the obvious place for us to start
expanding internationally," said Rudy Prince, CEO
for eFax.com.
"The free business model has already been proven to
work in the UK with the success of the many free ISPs there
and it makes sense for us to bring our free business model
for unified messaging services in the U.S. to the UK."

The introduction of the service to the UK means that
UK subscribers can now get free eFax numbers, while
eFax users in other countries can obtain UK numbers
for a fee. Before the UK launch there were already
15 thousand subscribers in the UK with U.S. eFax numbers.

Subscribers who use eFax can bring all their fax, voice
and e-mail messages to one central location. Paper faxes
are routed via the eFax.com Service Center, then compressed,
password protected and sent on to e-mail addresses. Voice
messages can be accessed either by telephone or e-mail.
